Pricing above MSRP?

Its rare that you see something in the real world at or above a manufacturers suggested price. With deals for shields all over the net for 350 to 389 I was shocked to walk into a local one to have a few at 485. Before taxes and their 35 in fees. Is that odd or rude to ask why so high? Almost makes me want to ship one in and pay his hundred bucks and still get out the door under his price.

well, my first handgun CZ SP01 was bought at $760 before Tax and fee.. and this store is famous in the Bay Area.

Free market. The shop owner is free to set his own prices. Without knowing the details of his shop, maybe his rent is very high, or his clientelle aren't that price contious. Maybe he offers something more than just the firearm sale....

If the B&M stores around him are selling for much less, and he isn't offering anything different, than I imagine he won't be open very long.

I figured over head had to be a part of it. The majority of his prices have always been decent. Slightly higher but always busy so why not. It was more of the price reduction from smith and everyone dropping their prices where he cranked his up another 40 bucks that I was surprised at. I guess if He's willing to throw in range passes or an extra mag or 2 that could help lessen the *** raping.

That's insane! These were 425 a while back. With the rebate going on and noticing my wife was struggling with our double stacked options I thought this would be perfect time to bring home another child.

As a business owner, I can tell you that the only reason he is marking them up that high is that he expects to sell them at that price. He probably gets a certain number of customers who, for whatever reason, are OK with paying top dollar. Probably dependent on the area he serves.

I had similar thoughts when buying my last handgun. The local gun store was selling an XD45 for $560 which I knew was unreasonably high. I ended up getting it from Grabagun for $400 plus $7 to ship. It was my first time purchasing a gun on the internet and I'll say I'm definitely not opposed to doing it again. Even after his $100 transfer fees (which included DROS) I was still well below his list price. Not to mention I only had to pay taxes on $400 instead of $560. I kinda felt like a douche bag for doing this but, hey, business is business.

THIS... I was at a LGS the other day and a customer comes in, says I want a small pocket pistol, grabs the first 380 the clerk recommends(a SIG I think), doesn't even rack the slide or try the trigger, says " I like the way this looks" and buys it, at $40 above MSRP. Then says, these can shoot 357 magnum also right? I couldn't believe it, most people do zero research on pricing/product details before making a purchase.

That's the same as theft. Trying to extort even more money out of the consumer is morally and legitimately wrong. I would walk out and never patronize that shop again if they tried to steal from me in that manner.
