    Springfield MC Operator

I'm interested in a MC Operator and the SA mag rebate makes that proposition much more lucrative.

But browsing the Calguns Marketplace there is five or so for sale right now.

Any reason that so people are getting rid of them so frequently?

I think it's just a popular gun because it's on the roster so lots of people own them. Also, people that need money tend to sell their on roster guns knowing that they can easily buy another one in the future.

For me personally, I would spend a little more and get a TRP but the MC is a good shooting gun.

Don't forget that if you're shopping for one out of state, it needs to have "CA" at the end of the model number.

I've been keeping tabs on that model too
Oddly none of the ones I've seen listed seem
a good deal however to a new one with the free
      stuff from the factory.
      Seriously missing the 80's.....

I have no idea why people are getting rid of them. They seem to receive quite a bit of good feedback. I can't remember if they were hard to get before, so maybe the profiteers bought some just to resell, or people simply bought some and then decided that a few hundred more would put a TRP in their hands...

Bottom line, I don't think they are selling them because the guns are bad...

The real question is why YOU want a MC Operator... Just to establish if you will be selling yours down the line...

For example, I don't like the fact that the front strap is not checkered. I don't need the ambi safety. I don't particularly like the color of the frame... Etc. I prefer my 1911s how I like them. MC Operator is simply not for me.

Because I can modify my gun myself, I would personally go for a good base and customize it to my needs. Others like to get a really well made gun they don't need to do anything to. If MC meets most of your needs, go for it. Don't worry about people selling theirs because you will not likely know the true reason, and especially because i don't think anyone will argue that the MC is not a great 1911.

But if you are buying it for the name, or because you think it is "cooler" than others, you may be selling it in the future.

                Just my 2 cents.

I have been ogling this Gun for a long time and I just picked up. with the SA deal it was hard to past up, great solid build. The one I picked does have the front checkering, it has been a tease since I now own it but have not time to shoot it until later April

These don't have front checkering...your grip is checkered, not the frame. Only bringing this up so someone doesn't mistakenly think they're checkered. It was one thing I din't care for with mine.

Would fully agree. It's on roster and not really that rare.

MV thank you for taking time to reply with such an extensive post.

I'm interested in giving the 1911 platform a try but I'm a 9mm guy so I'm a little hesitant about adopting another caliber.

Not impressed with the SA Target 9mm, it didn't have the same feel as the MC Operator. Also the MC Operator has a rail for a light if I want to use it in a home defense role.

Lastly, the MC Operator looks great.

The MC Operator is a fantastic gun and is very versatile. The rail helps give it a bit more heft so follow up shots are a bit faster. The rail gives you the ability to use it with a light for home defense roles. The 1911 means that there is all sorts of upgrade potential for it. Seriously, the sky is the limit. Out of the box, SA makes some of the mostest solidest 1911's out there. They stand behind their product for the lifetime of the gun, so any issues that pop up, you'll be taken care of. They also have a top notch Custom Shop (unfortunately they're not taking any orders just yet since they've been too busy).

That said, the downsides for me are the color of the frame. If I were to personalize it, I'd get a Dawson Fiber Optic front sight, the frame in the same finish as the top or perhaps even a gray color(?). I'd get the front strap checkered and undercut a bit so you can grip it just a smidgen higher. Maybe add a magwell. And lastly, an barrel/bushing/slide fit and a trigger job.

My first pistol I ever bought was a SA Loaded 1911. Great pistol!! My needs have changed so I sold it to buy another gun with a rail. If MC Operators weren't so expensive and heavy (back issues), I would have bought one of those. So, my other option was an XD-45. It gets out of jail Friday.

Anyways, happy hunting. You won't be disappointed. Don't be dismayed by the MC Operators in the classifieds. The sellers are probably doing what I did. Selling to fund another gun. Or perhaps another project/hobby, taxes, home improvement, car repair or even satisfy the wife/girlfriend...

                            Happy shooting and be safe!
