Glock 19 still worth it?

I really like the Glock 19 and how it feels but I'm wondering if it's still a good purchase even being limited to only 10 rounds? Should I consider a 26 or M&P Shield instead? I'll mostly be using it for range fun, home defense with the possibility of carry way down the road when I have much more training and experience.

OP, it really is a subjective matter.

Here are the reasons why I ASSume a 19 would be good for you.

You're limited to 10 rounds regardless. I understand not wanting a larger gun than necessary to help eliminate "wasted space", but you mention all around use. Plus you said you already like it.

The grip on a 19 is easier to handle than on a 26 for most people. Although, you can add extended mags/grips on a 26, you'll still be stuck with a shorter sight radius, which is a definite negative for overall use. The 19 will shoot softer due to the larger size as well, which normally makes things more comfortable.

The Shield is a smaller gun and arguably a worse trigger. Less capacity and shorter sight radius obviously. Even though the pistol is geared more for carry, if it fits you're needs, by all means get one.

It boils down to what you want the primary application to be and what you want to train for.

I second that sentiment as well. That was one of the (many) reasons I bought a G29 and choose to carry it daily. The way I see it, if I'm going to be limited to 10 rounds no matter what cartridge I pick, I might as well pick the most powerful one that I can.

Doesn't it suck how almost every other state gets to argue about the "power versus capacity" tradeoff, but that it's an irrelevant argument here now?

Anyways, all that said, 10mm isn't right for everyone. If you can't hit the broadside of a barn with it, it doesn't matter how powerful it is. Also, some people (myself included) choose not to employ 10mm for home defense, on account of it being twice as loud as 9mm, .45acp and even 12ga. (My goal during a home invasion is to avoid myself and my family suffering death or permanent injury, which includes the inevitable permanent hearing loss that would result from shooting 10mm indoors without hearing protection.)

You're absolutely right. But CA thinks that buying a suppressor makes you a CIA assassin, because they learn everything they know from movies.


Even in the liberal utopia of the UK, it's considered bad manners to shoot without a suppressor, and pretty much anyone who somehow manages to own a firearm there can get a suppressor for it. Even "ban-happy" Australia, the gun control system that Hillary praises and says we should strive for, just started allowing people to apply for suppressors last year.


If I could use a suppressor, I would happily use my G29 for home defense. But as this is CA, I use my Beretta 92 (9mm), until my capacity gets neutered on July 1st, at which point I'll probably switch to a Glock 30 (.45).

If you only want to buy 1 Glock, the 19 is a great choice. I have a G17 for HD nightstand pistol and a G26 for carry as the 19 is difficult for me to conceal. Having a 26 makes the 19 obsolete to me, and I still have 2 of them lol.
You can't go wrong with a G19 and you may change your mind later...Get one and shoot the S#!/ out of it!

I also have a Shield even though I dont CCW. I got the shield because it is fun to shoot. I tried my friend's Shield that he uses for CCW and was hooked.

Next Glock I get is going to be the 21sf then probably a 26 at some point.

Yes I think it's worth it. I just bought a G19. It's my go-to gun. The way I see it, it's like a Honda Accord. Its no Rolls Royce or Porsche, but it gets the job done!

They said it helps prevent people from buying guns in bulk to "sell on the streets". Because apparently they forgot that they already made straw purchases illegal.
