2 dot vs 3 dot sights

Does anyone have any experience using a two dot system? I may be looking at a good deal on an M9 and its my understanding that this is standard. Do you find target acquisition to be faster? Slower? What do you like or dislike?

    Thanks!

By 2 dot I assume you mean the "straight 8" system, where the 2 dots line up vertically and form a figure 8. If you meant a different system then my apologies!

Personally I found the 2 dot system just as easy to use as the 3 dot. The reason is because I'm focusing on the front sight, and everything else is blurry.

My 1911 has 3 dot night sights and its the pistol I shoot the most so I guess I just got used to it.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

Thank you for the info. Straight eight is exactly what I was referring to.

i don't like the straight 8 system as much. i feel like there's nothing that can laterally orient yourself, especially in the dark. the two dots don't actually sit on top of each other or anything... so there's any number of ways you could stack the dots and it'd put you anywhere along the centerline of the target. shrugs. i'm used to 3 dots.

I use a one dot system. Tritium front and plain black rear. Front sight on target and send it.

On my G30 I have the Big Dot sights. I like it for close up shots but I don't hit anything past 10y with them.

I have two Springfield Ultra Compacts, one with Novak night sights (3 dot) and the other with the Heinie straight 8 night sights (2 dot). I don't really pay attention to rear sights, so they don't make much difference to me. When I practice shooting at "self defense" distances, I generally just sight down the slide anyway.

It comes down to what works for you and what you are used to.

I've got a few with "dot the i" sights (bar rear and dot front), and I don't care for them. I have much better luck with 3 dot, as it gives a better reference for both horizontal and vertical, at least for my eyes and shooting style. Some people like them a lot.

Really, it's a matter of what works well for each individual.

I find the 3 dot too busy. I love XS sights. Just put the dot on the "I" and let er fly. Wow, I made a rhyme

It looks like I've got some training to do. Just another reason to head to the range

                    Thanks for everyone's input.

3-dot for me preferred, while I primarily have trained to focus on the front site.

                        three dots beats two dots
one dot is better than three
                        no dots beats them all

I am a recreational shooter going to the range once a month at the most and shoot 100 ~ 150 rounds per session. I could not say that I am better with one system over the other.

My Sig P226 is a dot in the front sight and a square on the rear sight. Unless the 3 dot is a tritium, I prefer the two dot/square system.

I'm also looking at the XS sighting system. But not the BIG front dot sight. I think that would mess up my aim.

I like three dots or one. If its a three dot system, I like a green lamp in the front and yellow in the back all surrounded by white. If its a one then give me a green lamp surrounded by white in the front. I concentrate on the front sight anyway, the rear sight is slightly blurry and I find either rear system works.
