Very nice. That technique is exactly how I learned to do it. Works great.

If it's brushed stainless, try red scotch brite pad, should remove and make like new. Make sure to go with the grain and you'll be alright.
It's better to have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

I like the dings and scratches. Gotta toss your gun around a little, maybe onto gravel, etc. You need to watch more episodes of The Rifleman

If that little scratch bothers you, what are you going to do about the inevitable wear that occurs to a firearms exterior cosmetics when you use it repeatedly?

Idiot scratch counts as a badge of honor?

No thanks, I'll keep my 1911s idiot scratch free...

Looking at some of them marks, I don't see how they can be classified as "Idiot" marks, those marks are more than just "Idiot" marks. For a mark like the OP did to his gun, he should immediately surrender his gun to the nearest LEA. How can someone do such a thing to a beautiful thing like that? One thing would be dropping the gun while on a heated battled or getting scratches on it while on patrol or looking for the bad guy, but what the op did is unacceptable. Be more careful in the future and don't let this **** happen again.

I have never done it myself, but I have been able to talk sellers down because of the mark and then used cold blue to fix the mark, on a SS gun I would have to talk the seller down more

A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his or her life."

In about 1987 I bought a new Colt Commander and in short order applied the now famous "IM". Thus far I've managed to avoid it with my Kimber and WC. The Colt is my "every day" gun so its no big deal but I'd really kick myself if I did it to the WC.

It's a gun, not a fine crystal vase. Like when I bought my Python, the guy tells me "it's only been fired at the factory"...I let him know I was gonna fix that little problem real fast. Get them, shoot them, enjoy them.

You guys have some really ugly marks on your pistols.

That first gun is downright horrifying!

It sucks, but thats a normal 1911 love tap.
