nightstand worthy? 1911 MC operator

I don't want my Aluminum or steel frame 1911's scratching my nightstand! Grin
Plastic for me... with a light. And BTW, my "Totally reliable" HK USP, Glocks, and M&P's that have never given me a hiccup...100% firearms....
....have all malfunctioned in my wife, daughter, nieces or newbies hands..until I corrected them. [Yes, I take a bunch of rookies shooting] In other words, unreliability is many times NOT the pistols fault.
I still think of them as 100% reliable, YMMVLast edited by Beendare; 07-20-2016, 7:37 PM.

I have owned one for over a year, have over 1000 rounds and a few defensive pistol classes with my MC Ok and use it as my HD over my g 19. I have always used Wilson mags and test my Jul through it. I feel confident it will not fail me if I ever need it. I don't not baby it and it has since scratches and whatnot, but I also take care of it and make sure it functions how it should. 1911s are just as realiable as most guns but they can be more finicky and also require a bit more upkeep. But it is a fun that just clicks with me, I have always liked 1911. while I can shoot glocks just fine a 1911 just feels right to me and that's why I use it and take the time to really learn the platform. In terms of it getting taken away, I is if it came to that point then it did its job and served me well.Selling lots of Pistol brass, lots of 38 and 44 mag!

My current nightstand gun is a Kimber TLE / RL with a SF X-300U. I have almost 1000 rounds through the gun with Wilson mags, and not a single issue with both ball and HST's. I have full confidence in the gun, but I make sure every gun I may use for SD is reliable.
I don't care what it is, I will put enough rounds through it to be sure I can trust it. My other 1911 is a Series 70 Colt that has issues with HP's. I would never use it as a SD gun.sigpicComment

I hear a lot of people say...
People who say this are likely to have never shot, let alone owned a 1911.
I hear a lot of people say 1911s aren't reliable enough to be a home defense weapon but I want your opinions.
For those of you that own or have experience with 1911s.
I shot the Springfield MC operator at a gun show and fell in love with it.
Question is, is the MC operator (.45cal) reliable enough out of the box to be a dependable home defense weapon?
What's your opinion and why.
While I would be the first to recommend a Glock for HD, a Springfield 1911 was carried all day and sat on the nightstand at night for many years.
Today's 1911's, with good magazines, are on the whole perfectly fine HD weapons.
Buy the Operator and shoot it until your trust it a HD role...Real Californian...Comment

HELL yeah they're reliable. For me my Les Baer Custom or Nighthawk Talon. Just as someone mentioned above don't skimp on the mags, I prefer the Wilson ETMAttached FilesLast edited by jsigp226; 07-20-2016, 9:08 PM.Los Angeles Dodgers....Why God Created The Color BlueComment

1911's are fantastic handguns, use a Glock or HK for your nightstand gun and save your 1911's for show pieces.
