I prefer 454 casull vs S&W 500 magnum threads myself, No one ever starts one though, So 9 vs 40 will have to suffice.

Depends what you have to shoot at and how well you can shoot it.

Oh and how much you can shoot it. Annndddd how many rounds you feel you need in the magazine

        -See how simple that is

          My opinion:

If it is a full size gun and you are limited to 10 rounds, you might as well go with 40S&W, 10mm, or 45ACP.

If you have a shorter grip gun like a G26/27 or Shield, you might be better off with 9mm.

I don't think it matters all that much at all.
            That being said, I carry a 40 but I wish I carried a 9.

Like others have stated, if you can handle the 40 with ease use it. If not a 9 will be fine.
History can repeat itself, and it will soon. And when it does, it won't be the North and South. It'll be the "US Government" and the TRUE American people fed up with the Governments insidious ways, fueled by determination to see this Country return to its former glory.

No it doesn't, and you've already answered your own question. 9MM is cheaper to shoot, cheaper to train with. There you go, there's your answer.

                    I'll leave this here:

                    I got a G30, and a G36 to carry alongside my G26.

                    I never carried the 30 or 36.

                    Why?

The 36 was slightly thinner, and slightly easier to conceal. But the thing that kept bugging me was "I'm going from 11 shots to 7." And it never added up to being worth it.

The 30 was a great shooter. It holds 11, just like the G26. But I kept thinking to myself, "man, it holds the same as my 26 but is heavier, fatter, and harder to conceal."

Its a circular argument and you always end up going back to this axiom:

"Get the most bang for your buck."

                    And 9mm is just that.

For CCW, the smaller the better for me. A very small 9mm can be quite a handful to get back on target, I reckon a 40 in the same frame would only be worse. I reload so my cost to shoot is pretty much the same, even 10mm or 45 Auto isn't extraordinarily more.

I practice with reloads so ammo cost is not an issue. Both 9 and 40 will get the job done. I prefer the 40 because I compromised to a smaller diameter bullet from the 45 ACP. I chose not to go from .45 to a 9MM. Why? Because I like the slightly more penetration the 40 has over the 45. That is all. The good news is that there is no bad choice here. Only splitting hairs and how many spirits can dance on a pin head kind of thinking. But really "no caliber war please"? What were you thinking you would get?

Some people don't shoot it well. This would be my paramount concern in CCW: can YOU shoot it well?

Carry the largest firearm you can conceal comfortably enough that you'll carry it, in the largest, most powerful caliber you can shoot well.

                          I have a G27 on my CCW.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

When I was twentysomething I was a big fan of the 1911 platform and 45 ACP. I EDC an Officers ACP, LW Commander and usually a Government Model. Now with serious arthritis and 60 years old. I am better served with a Glock 19 Gen 3 9mm.

So basically do what is best today for you and improvise, adapt and overcome, whatever comes in the future. I say go with the 9mm

I say the one you shoot best. Here in CA, I did 40 and 9mm. Depending on time of year, I carry the right size.

As for 40 vs 9? In CA, a 40 and out of state, I would do 9mm. 3 more rounds than the 40.

In Riverside we can have 6 guns listed so I have a Sig P238, Shield 9mm, MP40C and P229 40.

The MP40 and P229 are the guns I am best with, I really like 40. My son had a Glock 22, I fired 3 rounds with it and handed it back to him, did not like it. So in a 40, I think it depends on the gun (weight, bore axis, grip angle, etc). Depending on my clothing needs for the day and activity, I usually will carry the P238 (damn accurate little thing) or the Shield. Both are just easier to carry. I also had a 40 Shield, to much for me and I like 40s.

Gun Control is like treating the symptom, not the disease. Gun laws only restrict people who obey the law.
