What would be the better choice for a ccw handgun. I shoot both very well. I guess the only con would be ammo cost to train with said weapon. My choice would be between those 2 calibers, I like 45 acp but it costs to much to shoot like I do.

40s&w vs 9mm for ccw.(No caliber war please)

Prefer 9mm.. easier and faster to shoot for me. -
What doesn't make sense. I'm asking people opinions on 2 different calibers. I don't want it turning into what i carry is better than yours discussion. I know both calibers are proven I was just seeking advice as this will be my first ccw handgun.Comment

40 is a superior round. Any and all advances in technology that help the 9 "catch up" can be applied to the .40.
Some people don't shoot it well. This would be my paramount concern in CCW: can YOU shoot it well?
Carry the largest firearm you can conceal comfortably enough that you'll carry it, in the largest, most powerful caliber you can shoot well.

The 9mm will probably be more comfortable to shoot within the same platform (say a M&P Shield) so practice time will not be something to dread. The price of the ammo will be less expensive.
You have to balance the thought that while the .40 might be more effective versus how well you shoot 9mm vs .40 . First thing first, you have to hit the target and hit it multiple times.
The choice of ammo will probably play a more important role than the caliber. You can choose something that is effective in a duty pistol that doesn't work well in a smaller gun used for CCW.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

Then you said you don't want people to opine.
Kinda contradictory.Comment

By definition, 40 S&W vs 9mm is a caliber war.
FWIW, I carry a .40 Shield, and would be happy with either this or the 9mm version.sigpicComment

If the means you shoot them equally well; being comfortable shooting, recovering for follow up shot is same, both platforms have equal in reliability, concealability and accuracy then go with the 40. The difference in the cost of ammo should not be a factor.Comment

If you can get them onto paper with similar accuracy and similar speed then go for the 0.40
Quite frankly, I'm a static paper puncher at the range. I would be interested to see how I would fare at IDPA style shooting. OP If you have the time, you should see how you fare at defensive style shooting with the 9mm vs 0.40 and then decide.Comment
