Why wouldn't they pick Glock, there is not another gun on the market better to fit their needs and wants and it is also the most cost effective. There is a reason the largest departments and agencies tend to go with Glocks. Besides the FBI, the two largest LE departments also go with Glock NYPD and CDCR.

Does it really matter what the FBI chooses for their handguns? I could care less that they chose Glocks in 9mm. That just means that Glock gave them the lowest bid and won the contract. It has nothing to do with how accurate their agents can shoot.

Wrong and right. It does matter what the FBI uses.10mm, .40 cal developed for the FBI. The Glock does not make the shooter better.

Glocks are easy to disassemble and clean. Shoot straight enough and are very competitively priced - most LEO agencies also use Glocks 9mm

lots of LEO agencies are going away from the 40 s&w because its too snappy

it shows you where the industry is goin when the new Ruger pistol only come in 9 & 45. I know most of you on here might be glock haters because of the plastic frames, blocky feel and/or grip angle is uncomfortable.

I love my 1911's but why hate on a gun that works and is one of the most sold firearms in the military, law enforcement & civilian use in the world.

I'm sure this thread will make all the Glock fanboys feel much better about their purchase(s) because the FBI chose Glocks.

I don't hate Glocks. There is no reason to hate anything in life. Just something that I would not choose to own.

Opinions are nice....but you are completely wrong. My former LE agency issues SIGs with the option of Glocks. Guess which gun is mostly chosen by our Entry/SWAT team? Glock 34's. Sometimes it has nothing to do with cost.

Delta Force has been using them for decades and SOCOM has recently adopted the G19 including MARSOC and Navy SEALs. FBI HRT and regional SWAT have always issued Glocks in addition to their Pro models and many prefer Glocks to the issue 1911.

The Glock 17 was designed to be a war pistol to be issued to troops en masse. And over the decades it has proven itself to be the choice par excellance for that role not only for the avg grunt but the most demanding door kickers in the world. No one is saying Glocks are the best for everyone but it ticks off so many boxes as a go to war pistol that it's become a no brainer. We all have our preferences but these pistols can operate at a high level and at the same time most any issues can be addressed in the field with very little training. (No one can't truly appreciate the brilliance of the design until they detail strip a Glock.). For a mission critical tool that is a big deal I would think.

I totally can see why a lot of agencies choose Glock. It is one of the lighter weight pistols for those who carry all day long. Very simple and for the most part, reliable because they don't have to deal with the CA neutered mags.

You have to take the blinders off and look at the big picture. First you have to supple the guns and magazines as well as spare parts and armorer training. All at a competitive price, while having the reputation of handling any problems that may arise. Have a proven distribution and training history, also willing to take the old department weapons as a trade in is a huge plus. Glock almost always will do this, it saves the department some money and also makes the problem of getting rid of the old weapons disappear, LE agencies aren't in the business of selling firearms.
While S&W has the ability to handle it and has, SA does not and does not meet the spec's the FBI specified. But why would you go with S&W when Glock is bigger and better at supplying a large agency and the product has a reputation second to none and is cheaper.
