    Transmission oil for transmissions.
    Cooking oil for cooking.
    Baby oil for babies.

Any reputable gun oil with a proven track record is best.

What if the gun oil is really cooking oil?

Save the graphite powder for sticky locks and such.

Motor oil and ATF also work well.

OP, 30 seconds on google would have lead you to a couple of threads a week about about the same subject.

              I currently use FP-10.

FWIW, Jason over at Guncrafters, who I believe knows a thing or two about 1911 care, told me he uses Dawn dish soap to clean and WD-40 to lube. So I might be going in the opposite direction of you; once I'm done with my bottle of FP-10 I'll probably "downgrade" to motor oil.

Does he clean and lube often? I don't clean guns that much so just wondering if wd-40 idea would still work.

This is stupid. most gun oils are snake oils just relabeled as "gun oil". What do you think people used before there was "gun oil"? OP keep on using full synthetic, I use 10-30w mixed with ATF. I run my Glock dirty for 1500 rounds in between cleanings and it still feels buttery smooth and I don't ever have to reapply oil. Because gun never gets hot enough to burn off motor oil. Plus you can use the oil you have left over from an oil change and it will last you a life time.(or go buy a quart for 5 bucks and it will last forever) Don't take advice from people who don't actually shoot. I shoot a high volume and I would never waste my money on a over priced less effective product like a "gun oil".

This guy also shoots high volumes of ammo and guess what, he's saying the same thing as me. Alot of professional shooters also run full synthetic, hmmm.

Gun lube is like salt. Don't think about it too much and just use whatever you've got sitting on the shelf.

Btw, I use Ballistol and sometimes lithium grease. I don't like to use nasty petroleum based solvents because they damage human skin (like CLP).

I believe he said he cleans about every 500 to 1000 rounds. Not sure if he lubes it in the interim.

                            Believe and find your happiness...

If you believe synthetic oil and "tube -o-lube" works, then it will work on your guns.

If you believe FireClean is Crisco, it will be Crisco for you.

If you believe Motor oil and ATF works, then go for it.

If you believe Kroil works, use it.

If you believe FP-10 works, use it until you run out.

If you believe WD40 is ok, it will be ok on your guns.

If you believe "Gun oil for guns" is stupid, it will always be stupid for you.

If you believe Ballistol is awesome, it will always be awesome.
