G17 upgrades

I'm picking up a g17 in a week and wants to know what upgrades to do. It's going to be a dedicated competition gun. So far I have mags coming and a trigger spring kit from zev and their connector. Now I'm looking for sights. I'm thinking either wilson/vickers or dawson with fiber optic. Will a magwell take me out of production class in uspsa?

Yes. Magwell will put you in limited class. The trigger kit and sights will be the most you can do for production class.

I have dawsons and they are awesome sights. Tti sights are good too

Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. Is 9mm allowed in limited? From what I read it says it's mainly 40 cal?

Limited allows 9mm but is scored lower than 40S&W.
If you are hitting the A zone the score is the same but other zone have less points for the 9mm.

Already done. I got the Gen 5 g17 and that's the new color scheme. I'm pretty sure I can sell it for 2500 in the marketplace.

I was thinking about that or a stainless one. Not sure if it'll make that big of a difference for me. I'll probably be better served saving for a new barrel.

You mean tungsten? Never heard of a titanium guide rod. Titanium is actually a very light metal.

Have you read the USPSA rule book?

There are weight limits for production class. A tungsten guide rod might put you on the border. That said, no one's going to weigh your gun at a local match.

OP, if you want to shoot Production with a G17, I suggest fiber front sights, black back. Use the rest of your money for ammo and keep going to matches. After some matches then start experimenting with grip tape, guide rods, springs etc etc. If you don't get intimately familiar with stock, you won't know how useful/non-useful mods will be for you.
