The jury is always deadlocked on these, in which case I'd say just save your $6.
My thoughts about the hole being there is not that it's a design feature as some people say to let dirt out/in, but just a side effect of the plastic molding process. They wanted the grip a certain size/shape but the magazine well had to be a certain size/shape, so that leaves a voided area. On a mold, you can fill it with plastic, but that would add expenses and weight, or you can leave it open and pretend you did that for some tactical purpose. They chose the way that would maximize profits and left it open.
Plug or no plug, I don't think anyone can really determine any benefit or hindrance to having it.==================

Remember to dial 1 before 911.
Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

I have them on mine. I'm not worried about getting the action dirty or about the perceived use of the backstrap channel to strip magazines out. I'm most worried about the magazine getting caught up on those extra angles of the backstrap channel during a reload.Comment

also works like a stress ball for the sphincterFriendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.Comment

I'm indifferent about them. I have them on a couple and not on others. No difference. The only other benefit is if you have weighted ones that help with balance and recoil, etc...sigpicComment

^this, one more "accessory" that someone can sell you. For the $6-8 they sell each one for they prolly make 1000 more, not bad return... Hole goes thru, seems to get quite a bit of debris (powder/brass specks) coming out of that hole so I'll leave it open.sigpic"That's more suspicious than a nun doing squats in a cucumber field!"Comment

Depends on what you do with the gun. If you do fast reloads (competition or defensive or whatever) and your reload isn't perfect as one or two people alluded to above your mag can snag on the exposed ridge between the true magwell and the gap. By plugging the gap with something smooth if you're off by a bit it just bounces right into where it's supposed to go.Comment

Yeah, mostly esthetic for most of us, but we spend way more than $6 on esthetics on guns.....some just don't admit it
If Hackathorn, Vickers, and Harrington all agree (ppst #3) there can also be a couple of purposes for it, too, then why not....especially for $6?Join Active Junky for online rebates....$10 to both you and me!

I wonder why the discounting the one for the model 29 and 30. Last time I got one for my sf 29 but didn't fit so I have to my buddy because it was not for the 31st version but took me forever to find the 31st version. I haven't shot it yet but this weekend I'm sighting my rifle at a outdoor range, I will see if it does anythingComment
