    Glock 17

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and a complete noob to guns.

I was at a gun store in the OC and I really liked the Glock 17 they have.

The price is $599 minus tax and DROS.

    Is that a fair price?

Any info would be appreciated. I'm looking to buy a gun ASAP.

That's way too much.....you want to pay closer to $499 + tax and fees instead.

          about 20% too expensive

The difference in price could get you a nice set of sights.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

Would you guys recommend this gun? It'll be my first one.

This one will be for home protection, but I will definitely be thoroughly testing once I get it.

I hear rifle gear has really good prices and pretty close by. I'm gonna check out their store today. Thanks!

Have you shot a G17 at the range before you decided to buy one? If you haven't, I would strongly encourage it. I like my Glocks, but they're not for everyone.

It was the second gun I bought and I now own a dozen of them.

It is a GREAT starter gun and is still my go to HD gun.

If you like it, buy it. Glock's a great first gun, it will hold its value if you don't like it for some crazy reason, and you can neglect the heck out of it and it will still work fine. And if you just can't wait for a $499 sale, buy it anyway.

It's just money. You'll make more of it.

I have not. What are some reasons others do not like them?

For me personally, the grip, at least up to the Generation 3's, is a bit too big.

                              Excellent first handgun.

Having said that, IMO, handguns are a lousy first choice for home protection. If you are committed to getting the proper training, spending some time regularly staying current, then maybe they can be a good choice.

When someone I know as a friend asks about home protection, my first recommendation is a shotgun. That doesn't eliminate the need for proper training, it just will be a little less challenging to remain effective.

Just my opinion, there are many different points of view on the subject.
When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."
