To Most , a Glock is just a $450 Gun! To Me, ya that's true, for a Standard all Black Used Gen2 or 3 depending on its condition. But, when it's A Gen4, A Special Run Like a Vicker's , or Special Color from Lipsey's, If You are Not LEO and Can't buy this at Retail, then Yes it is worth over $600 and worth whatever current , reasonable Marketplace price to those willing to pay.

You don't have to , take a G20 and put a Lonewolf extended slide and barrel on it and voila you have a G40.

Ask me how I know ;-)

My cost for the complete upper with night sights just over $400

Are you talking standard factory OEM or aftermarket galore?

For those who haven't taken an economics class, this is another supply versus demand discussion.

Glocks are very popular = demand

The California roster artificially limits the availability of many models (gen 4, etc) = supply

Increase demand or reduce supply and prices will raise...

This is not really a discussion of the true value of Glocks or any other off-roster weapon...
            Real Californian...

However, are Glocks really worth a little more than 550 or 650? Would you want to pay above sticker price for a new car? Hey, everyone. Love your glock, whether you paid 400 or 1000.00.
The price is whatever the seller and buyer can agree on. As for your car analogy, people pay a lot higher than sticker price on cars when there is a short supply(like CA guns laws produce). Also to further the analogy, people pay a lot of money for used cars too because they are hard to get. The price for a Barracuda in 1960's was about $2500. You would pay a lot more than that for one in a decent condition these days.

Not for me, I have a G20 and love it. The best glock made IMO. I do wonder about a SF though and if it will make the grip any better so I've been considering a G21 SF so I can swap frames if I want the small frame. I've seen them for $450 ish used and just can't do it. Too many other nice guns in that price range.

                  IMO . . no, unless it's a transferable G18!

Glocks are good to go and trustworthy with your life...I'm glad I have one.

But, for a grand? I dunno...there are lots of other great pistols that are just as reliable for much less money.

Value is relative. What a Glock is worth to one person doesn't apply to another. I own two G22s and spent a grand.
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

If you're in the San Francisco Bay area and you want a Glock, you're going to pay $600+ for it. Making the round trip twice to a place where you can buy it for $500 dollars isn't with it unless you are going there anyway. Bay area guns shops know this and price accordingly.

I like Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks. I wouldn't pay more than $500/$600 respectively for either. More than that there are better options out there, even on the roster.

If Glock decided to abandon CA, I'd pay 2-3x the current prices. If there's one SHTF line of guns I absolutely have to have for end times, it's a Glock. Just my $0.02.

I bought my Glocks for the following:

                                $350 Glock 27 Gen 3
                                $425 Glock 19 Gen 3
                                $750 Glock 19 Gen 4 (after SSE)

In general, anyone paying over MSRP for a Glock Gen 3 is getting raped IMO.
