S&W R8

I had one. I was not impressed. I thought it was a good revolver, but nothing stood out besides the unique looks. The trigger was nice, but not great, considering that it is from the Performance Center. I have other non-PC S&W's that have way better triggers.

I feel that the TRR8 (or the R8) is a head turner because of its looks amd maybe due to its versatility (rails). As far as shooting, it was middle of the pack.

For $1,200 or so, I have other S&W's in mind to spend on. Of course, this is MY opinion based on MY preference.

For those that own a TRR8, can you comment on the (matte) finish? Wondering how it holds up ...

I have a trr8 which I use for ICORE. Maybe 1500-2000 rounds through it. The finish on the frame and barrel shroud is holding up fine. No scratches, no wear. The cylinder is blackened stainless and it won't hold up to scrubbing with a bronze brush. The blackening thins out pretty easily.

Not sure how the finish will hold up with hard use. I can say that it scratches more easily than a blued or stainless revolver. Heck, attaching and removing the bottom rail can leave a mark on the finish. It seems like the finish is a thin coat of paint.

It's a nice gun. I like the lighter weight and it's great to have eight rounds on tap. You can shoot with or without moonclips. Finish is holding up fine so far on mine, but I don't have that many rounds on it yet. I did add pachmayr grips to cover the backstrap to soak up recoil and I changed out the springs to drop the trigger weight down a little. It's a lot of fun to shoot and I don't think you could go wrong with it, but it does carry a hefty price tag.

Trigger on my TRR8 is better that recently purchased 929 and 686+ , both PCs. ( not that they weren't crisp or not smooth, but TTR8 is better)
Finish holds up well and I remove top rail sometimes. Not a single scratch after thousands shots and different ranges.
You must had a lemon or just negative towards it.
TTR8 one of the best models SW produced
It's almost boring to shoot , it hits what I aim all the times

Went back and forth between the TRR8 and the 627 V-Comp for a while. Ended up with the 627 but I will be buying the TRR8 at some point in he not too distant future. REALLY nice revolver...

What's everyones secret for adding & removing brass from the moonclips? My M327 TRR8 came with two and dang, I basically have to use a vice to insert my brass. I've tried a little case lube, twist and push, etc. It got to the point I was nervous for twisting the clip too hard and it getting too bent. I have 2, 5 Star speed loaders and happy with those, but would like to use moonclips more when I shoot a match. Any pointers?
