Has anybody used/shot the Smith and Wesson R8 357 revolver? Saw for sale at Turners and was intrigued. Kind of makes my model 19 seem old fashioned.

I have a TRR8 on layaway. I'd have it if it wasn't for the darn 1 in 30 BS. I chose the TRR8 over the R8 because it provides more flexibility than the R8 in that you can have 0 rails, 1 rail or 2 rails depending on how you chose to configure it.

It is one of my favorite revolvers to shoot. And when others visit me to shoot (i.e.: my brother), most of the time it is the one which leaves the safe to go to the range. The Performance Center trigger job is excellent in comparison to my other S&W non-PC revolvers. It is a large gun but not heavy. The 5" barrel allows me and others to shoot the gun more accurately as compared to the revolvers I have with 4" barrels, yet my 6" 586 is no more accurate (for me anyway). You would need to have ET's fingers to control a light attached to the pic rail, so it is not really a home defense gun unless you choose to use your light separately in your support hand. But it was designed (as I have heard) to be used behind a riot shield, so being able to turn an attached light on and off easily was not part of its intended use.

Once you get over the cost of entry (buy once, cry once), you will not regret your purchase.






It can use full moon clips or speed loaders to reload. Not too many manufacturers make 8 round speed loaders - I use the ones made and sold by 5 Star and they work great.

I have a TRR8 and admittedly it's the only S&W revolver I've shot, but it's quite possibly my favorite handgun. The weight is perfect for me and the trigger is excellent compared to my GP100.

Yes I was intrigued as well when saw the ad on Turners website. I've always loved the look of the R8 and idea of 8 rds of .357 mag.

Like the idea of getting one and adding to my GP100 4" which I have always loved to shoot.

The revolver bug is biting me ... i shouldnt have opened this. Ive been on the fence between a 686 and a TRR8. The TRR8 is slowly taking the lead

I have a TRR8 I choose it because as mentioned you can run it with out rails if you like.it has some kick since it's a really light gun.
