I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they weren't thousands of dollars like they are now.

        Beautiful revolver...

How much would you pay for a new manufactured Colt Python if they started reproducing them?

                Fairly comparable:

So I'd say $800-900 for the neat nickel 6'' barrel one seems reasonable for a newly produced one.

None have failed on me, but you can feel that the S&Ws are the more sturdy platform (historical reports back that up, IIRC). I haven't test fired for accuracy, but my guess that the modern production tolerances of the S&Ws would give them the nod. Felt recoil is less on the S&Ws due to their heavier weight.

All are pretty. The Python is just glass smooth to shoot. But if I was going to own only one, and I was going to shoot it regularly, I would much rather have one of the S&Ws. The Python is a "weekend car." Not one that is going to hold up to regular use as well as other options.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

No guns are the guns they once were.

I would buy a current version. They stopped making it due to high cost of producing the weapon. The old Colt only let their best hand assemble these. Great history on the Python...watch Gun Stories episode on the Python. Will answer all your questions

LOL....yeah, right. If it was made to sell at that price, it would be nowhere near the materials/fitting of the original Python.
