Wish it was an online deal. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"Comment

Planning to get a rock island tactical for $470, do you think this will be better for little extra?Comment

Excellent and reliable
Wouldn't part with mine its an excellent rust free weapon never failed me"There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wound, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time."

Mine have never had rust or any other problem. They are smooth clean and reliable. I have one that has 1500 rounds through it and all I have done is keep it clean. I would definately buy another at that price, but I have 23 more days for my next dros.Comment

I had the stainless with walnut grips, but traded it out last year for a Tikka rifle. Never had a problem with it, but I didn't care much for the sights.
I get that Kimber is a mid level brand and this one is at the very bottom of their full size lineup, but with an MSRP of $1000 (stainless version), I think at the bare minimum Kimber could put three little white dots on the sights. I mean, bottom tier guns like Taurus and Rock Island will give you night sights, checkered front strap, and an ambi safety for a lot less money. It's cool that Kimber gives you dovetail sights, but dovetails with an A1 sight picture?
My personal rants aside, this deal at Turners is a good one. For $630, I'd definitely do it. This price is less than a Springfield A1, so it's a screaming good deal even if it has cheap sights.

Does all of them have rust issues?Comment

I have one (rather, my 17-year old son has one) with the dreaded external extractor that was won at a FNRA dinner several years ago. It has functioned fine and is as accurate as all but one of my other 1911s, and the one that beats it is a custom gun. It has had a rust spot appear on the slide, but not bad enough to mar the unpolished surface. I did recently replace the full-length guide rod with a standard set up as that is what I prefer.Comment

Did Kimber fix this rust issue with their recent production or it still exists?Comment

I love mine. I had a serious issue with a Chip McCormick 10 round mag when I first got the gun. Regular mags have been perfect and it's super accurate. Trigger is great too. For $630 you'd be hard pressed to get more accuracy and a better trigger.
The rust issue? Got the gun in 2007 and the barrel seems to have some discoloration. Not rust, but little spots that are... rust? Not enough to bother me. The idiot scratch I put on it and the holster wear are more of a problem cosmetically.Comment
