    Ruger P95

I have a Ruger P95 in 9mm. I love this gun. I bought it in 2002 used from a lgs. The last three times to the range it is have a feeding issue. It keeps nose diving rounds. I've stripped and cleaned the gun several times but it just seems to be getting worse.

I emailed Ruger and they wanted me to call them. I called this morning and they want me to send them the gun to repair it. They say it can be a number of things.

I don't have an issue with sending them the gun as I have sent them a gun before with great results.

Is it smart to send an off roster gun to an out of state manufacturer? What if it's not repairable? Can they replace it with another? I'm thinking they can't.

This is not my handgun of choice as far as self defense goes. I just like to shoot it.

likely magazine related. Factory mags or aftermarket? FMJ or HP ammo. Any burrs on the feed ramp? Is mag catch damaged so mag hangs low in grip?

Nose diving rounds is usually magazine related.
If the mag spring is put in backwards this will happen.
Also if the springs are tired or collapsed, it can happen.

        Original Ruger magazines?
Happens with more than one mag?

I have 2 factory and 2 aftermarket mags. It happens on all 4.

I have never taken the mags apart. I explained this to Ruger and they don't want the mags.

FMJ ammo. I don't feel any burrs. Mags seem to be tight.

You can ship it to Ruger and expect to get it back.
                It's not a SSE gun.

What I would look at next is the magazine catch.
Possibly worn or chipped, it may not be holding the mags up high enough.
Pretty unlikely but anything is possible.

If it is either of these models,

                    KP95PR / Stainless Steel, Polymer Pistol 3.9" 9mm 1/1/2016
                    P95PR / Steel, Polymer Pistol 3.9" 9mm 1/1/2016

then it is still on the roster.

I like Ruger but this i their worst offering. They didn't put steel rails in their frame for the slide to ride on. The slide just runs on a stiff plastic frame like a high point. Ruger's P85 P85 mk2 P89 are tanks. Just don't drop any of their metal frame pistols on a hard surface because they have cast frames. I have seen p95s jam before. Just clean it really well and keep it as a range toy. Get Mag replacement springs and a replacement slide spring. Thats about all you can do.

The gun was manufactured in 2001.

I talked to Ruger again and we agreed for me to send them the gun and all 4 mags. It will be delivered to them on Monday.

Pics or links to these Ruger models with broken frames after being dropped?

I've seen Rugers with busted cast frames. Sorry I didn't take a picture. I don't know if it was due to a casting fault but it was absolutely cast and absolutely busted. As an aside Ruger makes lots of things and does a lot of contract casting for other companies manufacturing a wide variety of parts and products.
