$500 fun range gun?

Spend the 500 on ammo and a armed self-defense class.

Solid advice, and that goes without saying; I do both of those things regularly too. Next class I'm taking is in early Nov.

I don't think you can find a 9mm 1911 for $5-700. I wish I could because I would buy it. Cheapest I have seen used lately is $900.

Would have to agree that a Blackhawk in 44 is not too stout for range fun.

You could buy a RIA 1911 in .38 Super and get a 9mm barrel.

With $700 budget, you should get a CZ SP01. Later down the road when you have some extra cash you can send to CGW for trigger works. I like to shoot my CGW CZ SP01 than my Dan Wesson PM9 (which is a nice 1911 in 9 mm).
