    $500 fun range gun?

CCW handguns (check), HD guns (check), .22 plinker (check).

Now, WTB a fun pistol exclusively for the range, preferably in .40 or 9mm. Don't want any Glocks, 1911s, or revolvers. Also don't want a POS that will cause me problems (remember, this is supposed to be fun). Thinking maybe in the $500-700 range...?

    What might you recommend?

If you can find a Sig x5 in his price range sign me up for a few. Sigs sp2022 is on the bottom end of your price range and is a fun range gun. A lot of bang for your buck.

$500 guns? 92FS used. Shop hard, but they can be found $400-500. Easy.
        Or even better buy a used 96 for $400+ and buy a 9mm barrel. 40 AND 9mm.
The 9mm barrel in a 96 is for targets. And you will need to get proper mags.

Or get an old revolver for sub $350. 38spl. Broaden your range.

          Indeed. "Pricey" is a word.

Have an SP 2022 and love it! (Any other recs?)

I'm thinking revolver. Like a Ruger SP101 or GP100. Or a Single action in .357. Great guns, and the single action is a joy to shoot all day.

Been thinking about the Berettas...thanks for the nudge. Love the 40/9 barrel swap idea. (As for the .38s, I just off-loaded that entire platform from my safe. :-) I like to keep my ammo buying simple.)

Turns out Super Blackhawk .44 mags are the same price as .357 Vaqueros. That would be my choice. http://www.turners.com/ruger/ruger-s...-44magnum-9435

You can have a lot of fun with a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 Magnum.

Beat me to it! Blackhawks in .44 aren't hard to find at $400-$500...

You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

Seriously maybe a P238 or P938. I have a 238 and the trigger is amazing!

Sounds like you have plenty of pistols - maybe get a HiPoint 995 carbine, you will have $$ left over for plenty of ammo. Or build a 9mm AR from a PSA kit, will be at the high end of your budget. Cz SP-01 might just squeak in under budget, otherwise the rest of the pistols I'd recommend are over $700.
