I figured it's not a collector item so who cares?
If it isn't a collector's item, who cares? Colt guns aren't sacred, do whatever you want with it(just don't do one of those "distressed" paint jobs, they look so freakin' dumb). As far as the "value" of the gun being diminished... the value is in shooting it. Unless you have a reason to care about the resale value, you could make the thing worth $2 and all that matters is that you're happy with it.

I think I'm a little of all of those

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

It's just a production 1911, the only thing special about it is that it's your gun. Do whatever you want with it, refinish in the color/colors you like then shoot the crap out of it and wear that new finish off.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

Cerakoting a new 1911? Hmm, I say put a big fat idiot mark on it first then choose a nice color.

I can see the same thing being said about a Python or WW2 bring back 1911 50 years ago. "Who cares? It's not collectible."

I wouldn't. But hey, if no one messed with their guns, the ones in original good condition wouldn't be worth as much.

Cerakoting is for wear and corrosion resistance. Stainless has both of those already. If it's that bad, just sell it and buy something that's already been abused and put some paint on that.

What you have is not a collector's item there is nothing special about the XSE.

Now if you want to cerakote a python then be prepared to be stoned to death
Agreed. The XSE is a current production gun and there is nothing really special about it except that it's a Colt. If anything, the XSE is the perfect candidate for cerakote.

But as mentioned, try to do that to a Python or a WWII USGI Colt 1911A1 -- be prepared to be stoned to death
