I am very pro buy american. I also have an extensive background in mechanical systems and nothing speaks louder to me then reliability. My XD's are very reliable. I definitely shoot them better then my glocks and if I had to keep score my XD's have had less failures of any kind over any of my glocks.

But...it all depends on what the defined use is as well. Out rolling around in the dirt/desert, hiking, camping, etc...I prefer my XD45C over any other handgun. It has never had a failure and I am pretty good with it.

At the range, my Colt xse1070 is by far my favorite and most accurate but my 97b isn't far behind.

In my 9's, my XD tactical, followed by my 75b are my most accurate at the range.

Home Defense - depends on where in the home i am when the need arises and I'll just leave it at that.

Concealed Carry - XD's are too large and heavy IMO - YMMV. I prefer my shield 9, M&P9C or my 642 (no lock).

Now, just plain fun to shoot...hmmm...ALL OF THEM. I just like shooting!!!

    Be safe out there!

I don't see the point to buying a Eastern European version of an Austrian gun with a higher bore axis and unnecessary grip safety for $50 less. The HS200 was $300 before being rebadged the XD by Springfield. A lot of people want to be Special Snowflakes by having something other than a Glock. Wear a funny hat instead.

      GRIP ZONE!

Fyi, mfg's like glock s/w sig hk practically cornered the leo/mil market. Basically gave out free guns bargin deals etc. its all about money and cost in the minds of our govt. SA basically just stood to the side and let the guns sell themselves to the civilian/le market whoever wants it.

Nothing wrong with XDs. Got a XD9 with over 1000 rounds, has never failed since day 1. Also about 500 rounds on a XD-S 3.3 9mm and that hasn't had any hiccups either.

        Classic sales and torture video...lol

XD is an awesome line. I have the XD9 Tactical and I love it. Thousands of rounds through it with no problems.

Wow! You guys must not shoot your XD pistols much. They don't have very many rounds through them.

This one is probably somewhere around 30,000+ rounds. I don't keep track closely, as there is no point to it. I buy bullets by the thousands, to reload, and also cast my own.

The sights were no problem. My gunsmith removed the old ones, machined the bomar cut, and installed the dawson FO sights. My mom's XD has the same sights and we had the triggers upgraded with a drop in kit that the gunsmith fine tunes. The trigger is to die for and beats any other polymer pistol trigger I have checked out, at the competitions.

If you are shooting an XD with a stock trigger, you are missing out. The same goes for an AR15. Unless you buy a fancy model (XDm has a version with a better trigger) the trigger may vary from OK to absolute crap. My brother's XD40 Tac is OK, my mom's XD9 Service had a horrible trigger. My stock trigger was so so.

There is quite a bit of aftermarket support for the XD pistols. It is too bad that some of the parts are only available from Springfield, but there are a bunch of parts out there to customize your XD. Check out Pistol Gear's web site.

The loaded chamber indicator and striker indicator are great. I can easily tell what condition the pistol is, without looking, if I want to. The only problem with them is that the lci has to be cleaned once in a while, especially if you shoot wax lubed lead bullets. It can stick up a bit, but doesn't effect anything else.

The only mag problem I have had from 8 magazines, is one of the newer ones and it was not right out of the box.

This pistol fed semiwad cutter lead bullets like they were candy and it made some nice big holes in the cardboard targets, at the competitions.

The stainless version had been great. There is some type of a clear coat on the slide and it is worn a little from the holster and there are very small scuffs/scratches in the stainless. You have to look very close to notice the wear. That is after 6 years of competition use and just blm land use before that with a holster. The pistol was purchased in 2005.

I am still using the original recoil spring and the only broken part was an aftermarket slide stop, but the company sent me a new part after I showed them pictures.

My mom was going to buy the M&P pistol, because she is left handed, but the slide stop is too far forward for her small hands. She looked at many pistols and still went with the XD9.

A friend has an XDs 45 acp 4". I expected it to beat the crap out of my hands, but it was not hard to shoot. He installed aftermarket sights and I think they need adjusted. My dad has a NM serial number 1911 9mm that is all stainless, but it has been turned into an open gun. He bought it used and had a gunsmith do a reliability package and a new mount to set the cmore at 90 degrees, and it runs awesome. That is a very fast gun to shoot.

You guys can keep your Blocks and Sours. The XD line fits my hands better and I get great results with them. It would be nice if the XD had the support of Glocks, but they have been around longer and the XD tends to get a bad rap by people who don't have any real knowledge about them, or they just can't shoot them well.

              CGT80,
Springfield not selling what they call, "Safety" parts is my biggest problem with the XDS line. Sure XD and XDM have all kinds of aftermarket parts, but almost nothing for the XDS.
BTW, I put the Powder River spring and sear kit in my 3.3 45 and got the trigger down to about 5.5 or so and was a bit disappointed in it.
So, knowing that the gun is striker fired I went straight for that friction zone and brought it down to 4.25 Lbs. The difference wasn't only the reduced trigger pull, it was the clean take-up that it created. So now I have a carry gun with a 4.25lbs pull with a super smooth take-up and crisp reliable break.

I'd wager alot of people are turned off by the grip saftey. I'm a big fan of the xd my dad has the .45 in full size and I shoot it pretty well. That full size really helps keep the .45 in check

Yeah, I hear people say they don't like the grip safety, and I just don't get it. I mean, it's stupid simple foolproof to use. You don't even need to think about it, just hold the gun in some semblance of a shooting grip.

There's always that guy who's like "Yeah, but what if I get attacked by a pack of ninjas and they cut off three of my fingers and I need to shoot an XD and the trigger doesn't fire?"

It would probably still fire with just a trigger finger and a thumb, though

I love my XD-9 service model with the stainless slide. One of my favorite guns to shoot.

It's actually one of those things where if glock had that grip safety on their models that just about no glockfan will bi--ch and wine about it becuz they'll eat up whatever glock feels like giving instead of the other way around where customers input matters.

Glockleg anyone? Oops. Shouldn't have mentioned that word. Glockboys kringe when they hear it. Lol.

The extractor is one of those parts that has not been made in the aftermarket so far, and springfield won't sell them, according to others who have called them. I have a barsto 9mm barrel that was fit to my gun by a smith, but it is only 95-98% reliable and sometimes doesn't extract. I got tired of the issues when running stages.

That would be a very easy to shoot trigger for a carry gun. I don't know if I would want the trigger that light. My XD trigger is 3.25 lbs and has a very short movement (I don't know what kit or mods the gunsmith did) but it is not a carry gun. I do know it has lighter trigger springs, and if you had to polish friction surfaces, it wouldn't surprise me if the gunsmith did the same.

I can shoot Glocks pretty well, but they just don't do anything for me and don't have the same feel as the XD. It is great that slides and most other parts are made aftermarket for glocks. I wish more manufacturers would jump on the XD part and the other models in that line. I wonder how many XD pistols are sold vs. glocks, and what the demand is like.

Ha ha that's funny. I'm one of the first to call them about it. I wanted one or two to mess with. I've got my extractor almost where I want it, but I don't dare remove any more metal unless I had a spare.
                          On the polishing,
Everyone knows about trigger bar polishing. What I did was to polish the striker where it comes in contact with the striker guide. I then tested and rotated the spring and got the smoothest take-up I could get.
Rotating the spring actually took out a 1/4 lbs. of pull.

I have owned two XD pistols. They are good guns, and I never experienced a malfunction with either of them.

But I did not like the high bore axis, trigger, or grip safety. The trigger was too mushy and the reset was too long. I prefer Glock and M&P.

I compared the hand fit of Glock and XD. My hand fits better with XD. Decision made.
