I say 2 options use 147 gr 9mm more power, or get a 40 s&w, best of both more rounds in gun and more power than 9mm.

Sometimes .04-.06 yeah... $40 on a thousand or $2 a box is not that much more.
Some guys here probably shoot 10,000 rounds a year though (where the savings really start to show). That's a lot of money that could be spent on a one case of .22 LR or a truck payment or something.Comment

I recently picked up a FNX 45 and it is a beast. I don't shoot it nearly as well my 1911 at this point. Perhaps it's the huge mag well and cheese grater grips.Comment

Between 9mm and .45 I'd take whichever is closest. Most of my handguns are chambered in 9mm simply because it is more cost effective to shoot. If one bad guy was coming in to my house and I had both a glock 17 and 21 within arms reach I'd pick the 21. If more than one bad guy were coming in to my house I'd pick the 17.
If it's a carry gun, it'd likely be a 9mm, they tend to be more compact.
"knockdown" is a myth. Best single shot performance goes to hard hitting rounds like .357 (mag or sig), .44 mag, 10mm etc.Comment

BTW - .45 acp does have an advantage to being subsonic... Not sure how much it will help shooting indoors, but if you are ever in a free state where you can pay the extortion, I mean tax stamp to own a suppressor then .45 is a better choice in that regard.Comment

It isn't hard to make subsonic 9mm and .40S&W either.

Beware of the .40
Me wimpy man....staccato jumpy round hard to double tap, triple tap..any tap...
Pass...too...nuff said...
Wouldn't the particular ammo be more important... ie. p+++------, hollow point, etc....... put that into the equation then 9mm hard to beat....Last edited by Big bug; 08-25-2015, 8:18 PM.Comment
