Don't think it is - to buy new from LGS. PPT is always legal.

In terms of new, I believe the CA legal version has the thumb safety, LCA, and mag safety.

Don't have a 'Shield' but I have three other S&W M&Ps in 9mm, .40 & .45 cal...all w/o a safety (manual safety, that is...), all bought in California from a LGS. Don't see a need for a manual safety on a DAO pistol.

For me the Shield while thinner, wasn't enough difference in size from a G19 which is my main carry pistol and I own pre-ban 15rd mags for. I will use G43 only occasionally when I need extra discrete concealment. I used to carry the LCP in this role, and man that thing just disappears. The LCP is small and light enough to carry as a second, backup pistol to any other pistol you might carry.

I really wish I could list four pistols Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large.

And I think the Shield bore is higher above the grip compared to the Glocks. I can get a higher grip on the G19 and G43. But if you have extra large hands I can see where G43 is too small.

The width of the gun makes a huge difference to me. Had a G26 and it felt like a goddamn brick compared to my LC9, Shield, XDS, or any one of my snubs. Hell, i even prefer carrying a full size 1911 over a G26.
