    M&P Shield

    Hey Cal Gunners,
I am looking into getting a Shield and was wondering if the one without a safety is California legal? Thanks in advance!!!!

Don't think it is - to buy new from LGS. PPT is always legal.

In terms of new, I believe the CA legal version has the thumb safety, LCA, and mag safety.

All of the ca compliant shields that I have seen at my lgs have had the thumb safety on it.

          M&P Shield

There is one in the marketplace. But for that asking price you could get a CA-Shield, lots of mags, or apex triggers, or trijicon night sights, or viridian laser combo in multiple configurations.

CA legal yes. On the stupid roster, no...

You would need to buy one private party.

I got mine SSE because I wanted the controls on my Shield to be the same as my FS M&P. (No thumb safety)

It is California legal, however it's not on the CA approved roster for sale from dealer inventory.

Acquiring from PPT is one of your only options to get that version.

I actually like the little safety . It doesnt get in the way of anything and hasnt ever snagged or switched positions on me. However i dont use safeties on anything, so.... i could definitly use one with no safety too.

When i got mine, i could have gotten an sse one, but my county wont accept sse guns on a ccw.

the safety is not a deal breaker for me, but the reason I was asking was because i found a Shield online with no safety for $214 shipped. When I checked the roster, the roster didn't specify if the safety or non safety.

Just check with your IA if you plan to carry the non-California Shield. Some don't care, while others forbid carrying any SSE or off-roster gun, although my IA let me put two C&R pistols on my LTC and they are obviously roster exempt. Since you are probably acquiring it through PPT, shouldn't matter in my opinion but check with your IA or you may be disappointed. Last year, lots of people bought them who live in my county and the Sheriff said no, so last year, saw a lot of them pop up used around here.
