Colt or Springfield

Colts 1911 people annoy me slightly more than regular 1911 people so I would go SA.

Actually I think you would be fine buying either. Just go with looks.

I wouldn't go with Colt because they don't give a damn about the civilian market and the future of the company is up in the air. Any gun manufacturer that can not stay above water when guns are selling faster than ever would make me pause before buying.

Silver is a whole lot better than Bronze and metaling at all at the Olympic is fantastic.

So the real question is do you want to spend the rest of your life explaining who won the Gold, and no it's not a Colt.

I'm looking to getting a second 1911, I just can't decide if I should go for the colt 01991 or SA Gi. I do own a Dan Wesson,

Dude get the one you like. Decide on your own. If you bought the first one you can surely make the decision on a second one without this never ending story here.

I have a recent mfr Colt Commander 04691 and am very happy with the build quality, fit, function, finish and reliability of it. The one thing I didn't care for was the nylon main spring housing that they are using. Although it's probably fine, I'm just not into plastic on a 1911. I replaced it with a steel arched, grooved, lanyard loop MSH. Took all of 10 minutes to do and now it's perfect. Either brand would be fine and offer you a lifetime of enjoyment I'm sure. Good luck with your decision.

From my view...

Kimbers, Lester Bears, and Wilsons...tend to stay locked away in a lower drawer I presume, but in any rate out of sight. That is unless the above mentioned companies pay some sort of celebrity to actually use the pistols in some place where there are lots of cameras.

I haven't reached the point of recommending RIAs. But, at least the owners of the RIAs are out on the range where current reports favor the RIAs to function properly more often than not.

I encourage all type of 1911 owners to happy with their decision and to have a good time at the range despite my bias limited view.

Both are good. My TRP shoots great, and I like it just as much as the semi-custom 1911s that I have fired. I lean towards Springfield over Colt because the Springfields are all Series 70, have a lifetime warranty, and by all accounts have great customer service. Springfields are also a great value for the money.

Three things I do not like about Springfield 1911s: (1) the Integral Locking System. Why, Springfield? (2) The frames are forged in Brazil. (3) The white outline on the front tritium sight that comes with the TRP is too small, and hard to see when it gets dirty after a few rounds.

I also do not like the fact that the TRP has a "TACTICAL" roll mark. Silly. And the front strap checkering is too aggressive. Otherwise, a solid 1911.

Thank you all, I'm going to go with a Colt, SA are always on the for sale section if a good deal comes up, I'll pick one up I guess we can't have to many 1911's

Yup. I also grew up shooting a colt.


It's not made of unobtanium like many like to advertise.
