Just out of interest - is it against the etiquette of this forum to post this much? If yes, I will certainly slow down. What would you say is an appropriate number of posts to not annoy the veteran members?

Then it's just a matter of steering interest in the auction by posting such a ludicrous inquiry here... and now everyone in this thread is paying attention to that auction, and the price will jack ( that is - IF it can be PPT'ed in CA).

Be patient for your Python they always pop up here and not all of them are at an inflated price.Some yes but all no. You just have to be alert to when they pop up cause usually when they do at a good price there gone right away. I don't think Colt will ever make the Python again cause they don't have the Craftsmen they use too and if they did I am sure the price would be pretty high. I have herd that a company in Italy called Pietta is going to or is making a Python copy they usually make single action western copy's so it should be interesting to see one and how they turn out............Good luck Pardner there out there and you will find one if you want it bad enough.........Peter

No; not the posts.

I meant slow down with jumping into the things you are new to collecting. You have already shown you are unsure of how the typical gun auctions work, and you are chasing some hefty-level collectibles and high-end revolvers (Pythons, Korths, MR73s) with some very beginner level nuances. You're going to get burned on authenticity, price, or validity of what you are chasing after if not careful.

You state that the Python was produced in the late seventies. That's exactly when Colt changed the walnut grip pattern from the Generation ll style to the Generation lll style so if the grips shown in your photo are correct, it's a very early Gen lll model which could add value to a collector seeking releases of early on design changes.
Another thing that I see in the photo is that the front sight has two connection pins. somewhere in the Gen lll releases, Colt switched over to a single front sight pin. Added value? Perhaps.

The OP has asked legitimate pricing questions pertaining to the auction of a very nice Colt Python which I believe will final gavel for very big bucks.

Just to close out this thread, I was at the auction with a friend just to check it out as we've never attended one.

The Python in question by the OP went for $2750 + buyers premium of (12-18.5%, depending on if present or online and what method of payment) + sales tax.
So the minimum it went for is $3300....or if bought online, $3470....plus DROS.


Personally, I targeted 3-4 guns as "maybe they fall through the crack" and I get a good deal. Doesn't happen, mostly due to the Buyers Premium and Sales Tax getting in the way
I saw a sweet, minty HK USP Match 45 that I wondered if I could steal under $1800 OTD....it went for $4000 + Premium + Tax, or about $4800....LOL
