$1500 price its 10% chance its a steal on your part, 90% there is a major flaw with the revolver IF being sold to you direct. Since its an auction, its obviously going to be sold for way higher. Like others said, your price range doesn't cover a python at this time. If you really want a revolver there are others under the $1000 range you should look into.

Got to have hope even if it's false. This is an auction gun, the auction doesn't start for six more days and prebid is up to $2k now. It will go for $3k - $4k++ and be worth it, not sure why OP thought it would ever sell for $1500.

$1500 is an excellent price as long as it's in good mechanical shape.I bought one that looked like that and it had hammer push off. It wasn't easy finding a new trigger nor cheap luckily everything worked out alright. That's the first thing I would ask him if it has hammer push off then if the bore and cylinders shine and no rust or pitting anywhere and of course if its been refinished as that kills off half the value. The reason I brought up refinish cuz that gun looks great and the ejector rod shows no bluing loss and a lot of guns no matter how nice of original finish the ejector rod has blue loss anyway seems thats the case on a lot of the ones I have seen and own or its just a nice exceptional original gun. If you like it then go for it. I have 5 and made mistakes on a couple of them that I got but I'm still glad I got them and don't mind learning how to work them a bit cause it not as big a voodoo taboo as people make it out to be...Peter.....

That's actually a low compared to some I have seen listed here. You won't get it for that.#K40458, 4'' barrel, factory checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions, as well as Pachmayr fingergroove grips and a Bianchi brown leather holster. Dating from the late 1970s. Condition is excellent showing little use, with near imperceptible index mark to cylinder and very light knackering to butt of grip. Action is crisp, bore is bright.

Kind of a misleading question if the OP is trying to get it off an auction site(which I don't know if he is or not).gonna have to pay over $2000 now, http://www.liveauctionworld.com/Colt...lver_i22663747
"How much should I bid? " would be a more appropriate question.
When I saw the first post I was thinking 1500 would be half price for that gun as advertised in California.
Good luck op.Comment

Here here...no better said!!
If the OP has to ask in a gun forum "How much should I pay for this PYTHON?" he should not be buying Python's as he has CLEARLY not done any research whatsoever on them. The fact that he considered $1500 to be "really steep" only reinforces my point..
Stick with revolvers by Ruger...

I predict it will sell for between 2800 to 3200 as there is six days left till it starts for anxiety and desire to build but the thing that worries me when the fireworks start is a shill bidder to drive the price up.I hate to think like that but this is California and that is a Colt Python. I am not pointing fingers but just saying it happens....Kind of a misleading question if the OP is trying to get it off an auction site(which I don't know if he is or not).

In the spirit of Pythons, I recently obtained a 6". I was wondering if any Python gurus can enlighten me on its value. It is a shooter and was a police officers duty gun. Yes I just said duty haha. That being said it has minimal wear. There is some at the front of the barrel, I'm assuming from going in and out of the holster. I've shot it and the trigger is unbelievable and it's accurate as heck. I'm not looking to sell it, but I am curious of itsworth. It came with pachmire grips new in box as well as some custom grips. Your help is appreciated. Oh also no box or papersWhat we have done for ourselves alone dies with us

^^^ asphaltcowboychip,
I'll give it guess but I think you should really just start your own
"I ain't selling it but how much is it worth? Colt Python" thread.
( I don't know if you've noticed this but we're always lacking new and interesting threads to read.)
anyways, a member here was selling a Colt Python like yours the other day and it was broken...missing it's hammer firing pin and the action did not even turn...he was asking $800 for a friend who wanted him to help him sell it...so many people were trying to get it at once that he actually was offered $1300 from someone who really wanted it.
so with that knowledge I would say your gun is at least worth $1200 to somebody out there.
who knows maybe even as much as $1900.
(tell the prospective buyer that yours is worth $200 more because yours you can actually shoot and enjoy, unlike the other 90% of Colt pythons.)
if you think those kind of high prices are crazy... so do I.Last edited by sealocan; 07-19-2015, 4:51 PM.Comment
