#K40458, 4'' barrel, factory checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions, as well as Pachmayr fingergroove grips and a Bianchi brown leather holster. Dating from the late 1970s. Condition is excellent showing little use, with near imperceptible index mark to cylinder and very light knackering to butt of grip. Action is crisp, bore is bright. This is at the Carol Watson's Orange Coast Auction, held next week. It's a California PPT. And they're currently up to 2000 dollars.
I really want this gun, but it's probably going to go a lot higher still. Would love to hear your thoughts on what the gun is actually worth, how hard it is to find one in this condition in California.
Also, as a little side note: Is the Colt Python really this good? Or am I paying the big bucks for nostalgia? I mean, is there anything this gun would do that a 686 with the same barrel length couldn't? Am I paying Korth prices for a reason other than nostalgia?
Finally: why doesn't Colt start making these again?
Thanks.

If the OP has to ask in a gun forum "How much should I pay for this PYTHON?" he should not be buying Python's as he has CLEARLY not done any research whatsoever on them. The fact that he considered $1500 to be "really steep" only reinforces my point..
