I personally use mec-gar 8rd. They haven't failed me at all. Oem for para-ord, and those were good so I got more. I have a ss chip mag which works flawlessly as well, but for the price, I like the mec-gar more. I've ran ball and jhp through them just fine.

If I was going to spend money, I like the Wilson Combat 47D mags, but there are many hi-quality mags on the market now-a-days.
But, I never had one problem with Springfield Factory mags, or my Colt mags for that matter.Last edited by grim1U; 07-10-2015, 9:57 AM.Comment

You might want to call SA customer service. They may warranty them for you. I had the same problem with some mags and they were swapped out for free. Just a thought and it may save you some $$$. If not get the WC ETM's with the flat wire upgrades they are all I shoot now.Comment

I have been running Wilson 47D's almost exclusively. My oldest Wilson mags are around 8 years old and have probably seen 10k rounds apiece over their lifespan, one of them I think is starting to have FTF on the last round but I haven't confirmed it in a second gun yet.Comment

It ain't the springs, it's the top of the magazine body bowing out and rubbing on the inside of my trigger linkage. Why not just replace the springs and call it a day? But, if I was going to spend money, I like the Wilson Combat 47D mags, but there are many hi-quality mags on the market now-a-days.

Tripp Cobra>Wilson ETM.
Love the fact that Wilson will replace/repair a mag for just about any legitimate reason (and I've got my share of 8rd ETM and 8rd 47D), but my Tripp 8rd Cobras are hands down my favorite and most reliable (0 magazine related malfunctions) mags that I currently use.
The 5 ACT (Italian made?) 8rd mags that came with my S&W Gunsite 1911PD are still running just fine as well.Comment

Springfield has three different types of mags, the stainless with the plastic bottom are the most expensive. What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us
What we have done for the others and the world remains

Screw Springfield! They won't sell you any action parts. I wish I knew that when I bought my XDS. The best mags for my 1911 have been Wilson Combat Elite Tactical 500. Buy them once and take Care of them. They will last a lifetime.Comment

At first I purchased the Wilson 47D mags for my TRP because everyone recommended them. I ran them and my gun didn't seem to like them very much. After doing further research, I found out that the springs in the 47D are too weak and the follower has a tendency to induce inertia feeds on the last round, that's why most 1911 mags have that little dimple on the follower. I now exclusively use the stock SA Metalform 7-rounders and the Checkmate 8-round "extended" mags. Both of these mags have the dimple on the follower and have proven to be the most reliable in my gun. However, YMMV.Comment

Tripp or Wilson ETM (47D's are good too but I like the ETM's better)
Buy a single mag and make sure it runs well. Then buy more. There are others too but these usually come up as the top two whenever this question gets asked...which is a lot.
Oh, and Wilson also makes an ETM with a very strong flat wire spring. Supposed to be great for running +P loads and/or for great longevity. Buy once cry once and all that."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."
