That's really awesome. That would be really cool if we could put together something like that for a wide range of items. As it stands, we don't have the data to feed this, which is the issue.

Someone would have to take it upon themselves to spider the site and essentially build up an offline daily backup of the site and it's pricing.

On that same note, I'm sure those saying they hide it because it's no one else's business, won't be swayed by the fact that they're already putting their business on a public forum on the Internet. It's already up there for anyone to see and classifieds aren't even behind the registration wall.

There's nothing stopping someone from creating a script to automatically pull down all new and bumped classifieds daily and tracking the changes. Removing prices or deleting information has very little affect if someone is interested in what you're doing and you're making it publicly available on the Internet.

Maybe I'll eventually do something like that to keep and track prices for myself. That would be even more valuable because it would also track drops in the asking price before the sale and any edits. Might take a bit of my time though, and then it still doesn't help the community at all, only myself.

Basically, there's nothing stopping someone determined for having any of the information you wish to "hide" if you're utilizing a public forum to sell your goods. Removing the sales price after the fact is a bit like the TSA. It provides more peace of mind than actual security.
Lol if you're that determined knock yourself out. I certainly don't care what you do... However it would be harder to link the price to the seller with your proposal, but I sure won't make it easier for you lol.

They were private party transfers so I kept them private.

Uhm, someone has waaaaay too much time on their hands.

What X sold for last year or 13.7 months ago may not be worth the same now.

Takes a few quick minutes doing a price search on what something is worth NOW for common items, more research required for collectables and such.

Regardless, it's really not rocket science. Search, find an average current price and post for sale and see what happens.

In fairness, the strike through isn't always reliable. The different skins of the forum format things differently. On the default computer skin it works great but I don't think it shows on the mobile interface, also tapatalk.

On another note... why's everybody so annoyed with this topic? Almost at 300 replies, must be entertaining, let's keep this thing rollin'

No one is talking about posting who you sold it to or for how much. Just not removing the asking price, which isn't private because it's posted on a public forum.

                    Fair enough.

I've gotten lucky in that it's always displayed well on my devices.

That bugs me too. Sometimes I want to see the current prices on used items and no luck..

The point I've been making and the reason he posted that image is because there's many times you cannot do a price search for what something is worth now.

You can't find an average current price if all the data has been removed. He wasn't saying it's helpful to have data that goes back years but just data period.

Seems pretty "private" to me. Once it's deleted, you no longer have a way of viewing it under the current state.

When you get an app built to track it we can worry about it not being "really private" after it has been deleted.

                          So:

                          Always delete the price...always.

                          $: SOLD

                          And my new favorite post:

If the public internet seems private to you, it's simply a gross misunderstanding of the nature of the Internet.

I love all the Calgunners thinking how they got over and how secretive they are yet DOJ knows exactly what they sold or bought if they did a legal transfer. If people are so paranoid why even post or sell here? Why would someone be so worried about someone seeing what they asked for or paid for a gun yet have no qualms running a gun through the DROS system?

If you want to check the price, you can always pm the sellee private and ask how much he or she sold the gun for.
