i have a 627 in jail right now and i paid 1409 out the door. i preferred the little bit more weight and also the black finish and rail is just too wierd lookin on a revolver for me,lol

I did believe that because I always liked the traditional look to a revolver, but after realizing how light the gun is, I am happy I have those rails with the ability to add a flashlight to weigh it down. I shoot mine with the top rail and haven't attached anything yet. Love the thing.

ahhhh... no they're not (the triggers). USED to be.. .now S&W's lawyers wont let them make a trigger worth a darn. Plus, all the PC guns now come with the MIM (and non-hand fit) trigger components. It's the standard production parts, that cost more.

But you should still get it, and then get it tuned.

Please share, when did the PC revolvers switch to standard triggers, what year? All the PC revolvers I have tried were very nice.

I'm interested to hear some opinions about this revolver. My gut tells me to go for a 686, but my eyes tell me a M&P R8. Capacity isn't a factor in this situation

327 PC TRR8 is my favorite Wheel. It is 10 ounces lighter than the 627 and I love the black finish.

Having 8 rounds is a positive game changer to me. Mine has a gold head front sight.

Just installed some Jerry M wood grips. They feel great. Sure, it's an M frame and slightly larger, but that stainless cylinder holds 8 rounds of .357 Magnum. The weapon is light weight (35.2 ounces or there about) and would be a great backpack, deep woods option.

I like this function of moonclips on these guns. Very quick reload.

I agree. The trigger on my R8 is worlds better than those on my "standard" new production S&W revolvers. These include Mdl's 66, 67 & 586. Out of the box it was actually much more like the trigger in my broken-in Mdl 19 (no dash) from about 1960.

I have lots of revolvers to choose from, but when family come into town and want to shoot, the R8 is invariably chosen as one of the guns which goes to the range.

BTW: Just remember that you will need some pretty special anatomy to tactically use a light on your R8 or TRR8. This revolver, from what I have heard, was developed to be used behind a riot shield, so being able to use an attached light in a tactical momentary fashion was not part of the design criteria. In use you would switch the light on, and leave it on. Unless you have some pretty long fingers:

I don't know what year but none of the PC guns I've come across in the last 7 to 8 years are even close to the ones of the late 90's and early 2000's.

I am a wheel gun guy in and out. I have SW and colts in large numbers. I have mostly older, vintage because the new ones aren't the same (translate- not as good). I have 4 of the Pro Series and one of the Performance Centers. These use performance center parts. Two have been back to SW for poor triggers. One has now been sent back twice just exactly like the guy above stated about his new Smith- light strikes. Nothing ruins your day like a new gun with light strikes. All your confidence in the gun goes out the door no matter how many times SW says they will keep trying to fix it. I need to send two more of those to SW now for trigger and accuracy problems.
Summary,
I still love my old Smiths and I am trying to love the new stuff, but it ain't happenin. I have wanted an R8 since the first one I saw. But I have discovered that PC doesn't mean performance, it means we will keep trying till you go away.
Obviously there are a few folks out there that say they have never had a problem. Would I spend 1300 bucks on a new Pro Series or Performance Center rated gun - NO. If a buddy had one that I had shot for a year successfully, I would be interested. All I can say is that I personally have found lots of quality problems with the new models.
The older model 27 is pure sweetness in steel ($900). So is the models 13 and 19 with that great K frame feel ($600). The Highway Patrolman 28 ($500) is a tank and is a less expensive 27. The 586 in blue and the 686 in stainless have full underlug (beautiful) and deserve their reputations for accuracy ($750).
Weight? If that is even a concern, get the scandium series at 13 oz.

Those are wonderful. S@W has a great action Better than any on the market Colt Pythons or Rugers. Not to Knock Pythins or Rugers though.

I'm all about not using the warranty on my guns, and so far all my choices have held up. I'm beginning to doubt the r8. At first the r8 is boasting 8 shots of 357 mag, pc hand tuning, and smith reliability. Like I said before, sounds to good to be true especially for the price

I wouldn't say don't buy it, but don't buy into the PC thing because your expectations seem way too high and you will end up disappointed. Your going to have to pay the price if that's what you want, but I bet it won't be the super refined piece you expect it to be.

First thing I would do is buy a longer firing pin, reduced power rebound springs and a reduced power main spring. When you get it polish the rebound slide and the mating surface on the frame until they have a mirror finish. You can polish the hammer, trigger and pins etc., but the rebound slide work will slick up the DA pull the most and the extended firing pin will help with ignition. If nothing else, just swap the firing pin out, it will stop the light strikes. If you get the right brass and moonclip combo then maybe you don't need a longer firing pin.

I have an M&P R8 and I have shot it about 16 times. Then I put it in the drawer for when the night time boogey man comes.

It is a great gun and if you like borderlands, then make a huge bayonet for it and put a giant red dot on top...

Okay, but seriously though, it is a pretty good revolver. If you do not get one, then get a rhino, but that R8 with it's 8 rounds though...
