Then its does not have the CRG serial no. and is not a Professional.Last edited by Chapped Hide; 05-31-2015, 10:18 PM.**** your feelings! -
If he orders it, takes possession of it and then have SACS do the work on it then it's still a PRO with the CRG serial but if you want SACS to build it from the shop with the add ons then it's not a PRO.
The PRO is a spec so if you add or take things off then it no longer matches the spec therefore no longer a PRO.Comment

All Pros are built as if they were going straight to the FBI. All Pro's are built to the FBI spec because the smiths that work on them do not know which guns will be going to the general population and which will be going to the FBI. As said above, you can order a Pro spec'd custom with any mods you like but it will not have the CRG serial and will not have the Professional roll mark.
Springfield used to offer a Pro upgrade package but I believe that has been discontinued.**** your feelings!Comment

It may be a mirror but the fit will not be the same unless the frame and slide are welded up and re milled. The Pro is milled from an over sized frame and slide, SA's production guns are not.Originally posted by HopetonBrownA Mil-Spec is a great base gun to transform into whatever you wish with the SA Custom Shop. You could ask them to make it a mirror of the Pro, with the exception of roll marks.**** your feelings!Comment

You can customize it, but it will not fetch a premium like the Prfessional. If you just want to do it as your dream gun then you can customize it better than the Professional. I suggest having it Accurailed for that bank vault no slop smooth as a baby's butt slide to frame fit. The advantage over squeeze & peen method is it will last longer. Get everything from FS checkering to ambi safety, etc. if you are willing to spend the money it can happen. The wise man said just find your place

So the only distinguishing step is that the buyer has to take possession of the gun first? If he orders it, takes possession of it and then have SACS do the work on it then it's still a PRO with the CRG serial but if you want SACS to build it from the shop with the add ons then it's not a PRO.

I guess im confused. If someone orders a Pro from SA (and it IS the pro, with the right serial number prefix, etc, etc) but elect to have the CS tool on it even more before they take delivery, how does that mean it's not a Pro?
By that logic, if someone sent in a GI, Mil-Spec, Loaded, etc to the CS, then it would no longer be whatever base gun they sent in. And we all know that's not the case since every example I've ever seen the people are referring to their guns by the base model.

In order to be a PRO it needs to be the exact same way that the FBI specs it from the factory. If it differs in any way then it is not a PRO. Springfield only makes the PRO one way and if you want it any differently either you send it back after you get it or you won't get the CRG #.So the only distinguishing step is that the buyer has to take possession of the gun first?

So if I bought a Pro as-is, didn't take delivery of it and sent it straight off to SACS for additional work, it would cease to be a Pro?In order to be a PRO it needs to be the exact same way that the FBI specs it from the factory. It would still be a PRO because it would have the CRG serial.
When I said someone needs to take possession of it first it was under the assumption that people would take it home first and then send it off to SACS. I don't know how you can buy it and then send it off without ever taking possession of it.Comment

I don't know either. That's why I was trying to clarify what exactly you were saying. It would still be a PRO because it would have the CRG serial.

It sounded like you were saying if you had any SACS work done to a Pro, it was no longer a Pro.
I thought I was being trolled for a minute

Chapped hide is correct , here is a link to the official professional thread on the 1911 forum.
ok guys. along with a lot of other people on this board i am starting to see a pattern. mainly about the infamous "professional" model. questions, answers, myths get tossed around here every week. so i wanted to start a thread with specs, misc. info on the PRO. i wanted to get away from myths, and...
I have owned 3 pros , I sold one to ddndetroit on this forum and as far as I know what chapped is saying is correct.
After the pro is built to fbi spec you could have them modify it , but it would be a waist of money and time much easier to have a mil spec built to your liking.
For the op of this post you can have your milspec built to FBI pro specs but it will not have the professional roll mark or a crg prefix that makes it a pro the railed pro version will come with a crg prefix no front serration's and a custom shop logo , hope this helps.Last edited by PC9111; 06-01-2015, 7:03 PM.Comment
