    Springfield mil spec custom

Can my springfield mil spec 1911 .45 become a professional if sent off the their custom shop? I got the mil spec dirt cheap in hopes of transforming it into my dream 1911.

    Well, yes and no.

Yes, they can build you one from that frame/model.

IMO, it will never be a "Professional".
No FBI nor CRG starting serial number.
No Springfield Custom roll-mark. (Not 100% sure if they will roll-mark a build like this anymore).
"Custom fit slide to national match frame" is the first think you see in the Professional description, that already fitted Mil-Spec will never start there.

I say just order one and forget about it, when it eventually come, be happy.

If you want to add your own spin/tweaks to your own build...go for the build.

They have a TRP level build they will put on a mil spec for about $1650...

Start with that or a set of ala carte items and add some nice custom touches (French borders, golf ball texture front and back straps, ball cut slide, gold head front sight, etc etc) and get a truly unique custom gun.

Regardless, even if the mil spec was almost free you are going to spend more to try and "build a pro"...so just build your own dream.

Better off just paying and be on the waiting list IMHO.

They can't make it into a Pro but theoretically it can be made into something even better. Pros come spec'd as is, no mods allowed. Your mil spec can be modified in any manner you choose as long as you've got the money. Might also check out some of Robs work at Alchemy. Seen photos of some beautiful mil specs that have come out of his shop.

Technically you COULD send a Pro to SACS, but I'm not entirely sure why you'd want to...

Didn't say you couldn't. They just can't be ordered with mods.

Neither can any other SA 1911, right?

                  Pretty much this.

But, any of them (including the Pro) can take a trip back to SACS.

The Pro comes from the Custom Shop unlike SA's production guns. You can send any gun you want to the Custom Shop and mod until your hearts content.

No other SA's are made in the Custom Shop except for custom ordered guns. And your question is relevant to this discussion how?

The way you worded your first post made it sound like you couldn't send your Pro to the CS for additional work and "no mods allowed", but you can't mod any gun from Springfield when you order it.

Print up the menu, check the boxes you want and call SACS for a RMA# then drop it at FedEx. You won't be sorry and you'll have a custom pistol exactly the way you want it. My understanding is the TRP package without the guide rod and checkered front strap in black T is as close to a pro as you'll get without the roll marks.
