I definitely shoot better with a 34 (presumably due to the longer sight radius). So that's my vote.

Very conflicted: G17 or G34

Add up the costs of those pieces. That narrows the cost difference some.
And if you watch the marketplace forum like a hawk you can find a used one reasonably priced, but reasonably priced ones go quickly.
Tons of people compete with whatever gun they happen to own. If the budget is tight, the G17 works great.Comment

Except that you forgot to post the part where it says it can not be done in one transaction. If you reread the entire paragraph, it states the dealer can not accept membership paper work, payment and then go on to give he discounted pistol all on same transaction. That would make me think that you'd have to fill out paperwork, pay for the multi year membership, wait for coupon which once payment is posted and membership accepted should be mailed with a bunch of thanks for joining the gssf blah blah blah paperwork, take back to your participating glock dealer and then profit??? I'd say 2-3 weeks max.Comment

I've owned and shot both a 17 and 34 for USPSA and IDPA. Go with the 34. It's better to wait a little longer, save a little more money up and buy right the first time instead of buying something you are going to want to upgrade. It's only a couple hundred bucks.
The 34 is a nice shooting gun but I would still throw some Taran Tactical sights and a trigger job on it. That will make it even easier to shoot.Comment

I just started USPSA this year with the 34 and I love it. The longer sight radius helps with those long steel shots. I out Taran Tactical sights and connector, highly recommend both of them.
My friend just made Master with stock glock sights, if someone can make Master class with stock glock sights then you can upgrade the sights later. It's good to compete with out of the box.Comment

i initially picked up a G19 for the pretty much the same reasons you're looking at both the G17 and G34. i figure the G19 would be a little more easier to carry if CCW came down to san diego. i also went with the G19 over the G17 since the G19 fit my hand better. i've done decent in the few IDPA matches and steel matches i've shot the G19 with. since then i've picked up a full size Sig P320 in 9mm, and Carry model in .40. i don't notice any difference in how i shoot the full size 9 vs the carry 40. i however do tend to favor shooting the carry 40. but due to favoring shooting the carry 40, i have more 9mm ammo and will be shooting whatever/whenever the next match i get to shoot with the full size 9. i keep telling myself to take out the G19 since its been just sitting in the safe since picking up the pair of p320s, but like i said i keep favoring the carry 40 and a large amount of times use that.
i guess what i'm saying is try to shoot everything that you're looking at, and see what works best for you. you may buy something and end not liking something else in the end.Comment

think longer term. The second year and more if you sign up for longer amounts of years.Comment

Glock 34, because it just looks cooler than the 17. Plus if you ever mounted a weapon light the lens in flush with the barrel instead of protruding forward of the barrel looking silly.
And if you have fat hands get a grip force adapter, saves you from getting cut. Best $20 gun part I have ever bought.Comment

GLOCK 34 is my first gun, hints my screen name. To me it's worth the extra money. For me, the longer barrel doesn't help much in terms of accuracy, at least in my skill level, but the longer sight radius does help. It is big, slightly longer than a 1911, but doesn't bother me. If you like it, save up the extra cost and just get it, then never look back

I've fired both pretty extensively (no competitions but lots of range time) and I went with the 34. I just liked it better overall. But it wasn't a gigantic difference. Both shoot just fine. I may still get a G17 (hopefully an "L") at one point in the future.
Get both!
Good luck.Sorry, not sorry.
