    Very conflicted: G17 or G34

So i'm super conflicted right now. I originally wanted a 17 because I saw it as an all around good gun, but saw a 34 today and really liked it. The little things like lighter trigger, extended releases don't really matter much to me since you can add all of them to a 17 fairly cheaply but the fact that it comes with it all from the factory is kind of nice. So with that said I'm really looking at the two, debating whether or not the extra price is worth the barrel length. At the moment I'm looking at the g17 for 565 OTD and the g32 at 715 OTD, for those who have shot both, does that extra barrel length really make it any more accurate than the 17?

    Some things about me:

    This is my first handgun
Will be using this gun for recreational purposes, HD, and hopefully some USPSA and IDPA shooting.
My original budget was 500 before tax and DROS, so the 34 will be a bit out of my budget.

The features of the G34 make it a great HD, recreational and competition gun. The trigger is nicer as well. Price may seem a bit steep, but save up and get the G34, you won't regret it.

HA you mean that last line? Yeah...but I'm willing to spend a little more if I can justify it. If after this thread I can't solidly justify the extra price of the 34, then 17 it is.

I would go 34. For me, the slight increase in cost is worth the added benefits, especially if you might get into competition.

Well in that case get the 34. It's a great gun. Not like it will be your last glock. You'll be back for more.

The sights on either need replacing so the plastic adjustables of the 34 are going in the trash anyway. That leaves the minus connector, extended slide stop, and extended mag release. All super inexpensive and easy to instal yourself. So now that leaves the real difference. The barrel length and longer weight relieved slide. I opted for the 17 to run in uspsa production, and installed the 34 extended controls and minus connector myself to keep it production legal. I installed Dawson fiber optic front and adjustable all black rear and called it good. For me personally, the 17 slide length just feels more normal and natural to what I'm used to. The 34, while wildly popular in uspsa production, doesnt do it for me like the 17 does. I also added grip tape to the side panels to improve grip. Have fun. Both great choices, and the parts are a breeze to install, just watch a few YouTube vids first. When you are ready for uspsa, send me a pm and I'll give you my recommendations for setting up a belt rig so you'll only have to buy it once

If you get a two year membership through GSSF they will send you a coupon which brings the price of the 17 to 425$ and 34 to 507$

Not if you purchase a two year membership right off the bat.

Since it's your first handgun, you won't notice what you might be missing from the G34 if you buy the G17. Buy the G17 and get some trigger time with it. You may/may not like it.. Baby steps.

Add the 17L to the list.

I asked pretty much the same questions. I bought the 34. The only thing I've replaced are the sights. 'Went with Trjicon HD night sights in yellow. Never regretted it.

                          The G34 rocks

It conceals the same as a g17

As you will spent $250 per thousand old of ammo so I would by the gun you want as it will last a lifetime.

The only question is will the 10mm with RMR cuts sell well enough so they offer this as a factory option next year on the g34/35? (It will be gen4 so non a sales)
