I wouldn't waste my time with consignment unless money was needed badly.Originally posted by BumslieHK - the best 600 dollar gun, 900 dollars can buy.Originally posted by SleighterGetting legal advice from a gun salesman, is like getting medical advice from a janitor at a hospital. It depends if you got a WWII Luger take home, or a .22 rifle from Western Auto or a Glock 21 for examples. I had an extra SKS that was in mint shape and one LGS wanted to give me $150 cash, multiple bubbas offered $200 and I sold it on consignment for $500 and my cut was $375 and that shop kept $125 (25%). So the bottom line is I got $375.
I have sold to dealers, put on consignment and did PPT. It really depends on what you have.

I've seen consignment fees as high as 25% at a place here in OC. I agree with others, PPT if you have the time and want to keep your money.sigpicComment

PPT all the way to maximize return on original investment.
Consign if you just want to get rid of stuff and don't mind paying someone else a large % of the proceeds.Sorry, not sorry.

From the Calguns FAQ here:
Is a firearm sold on consignment considered a PPT?
Yes.
If the consignment firearm is a handgun, does it need to be listed on the "Roster?"
No. Since the consignment gun is treated as a PPT, it is not required to be on the Roster.NRA Life Member - CRPA Life Member - NRA Certified RSO - USN Veteran
I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Check out "Gunthers Guns" on Loker road in Carlsbad. Nice high end shop. Friendly knowledgeable staff.
Wasn't familiar with San Diego, but had previously done a PPT at Front sight in Oceanside. Made arrangements to meet a Calgun seller there on Sunday. Not to knock Front Sight, but Imagine my chagrine after driving down from Ventura (165 mi.)- Front Sight doesn't do PPT on Sunday! So the seller and I went to a nearby shop (recommended by Front Sight staff) which was Gunthers. Great folks and not the hustle and bustle of Front Sight.Comment

Off roster you will get more money ftf. Not that hard to sell pst on here with info on condition and pics if possible and you will sell. Why give up 25% minimum to someone else. They provide nothing you cannot do yourself.Comment

I'd at least try selling them here first. My experience selling some Mosins when FTF was still legal/straightforward was that I got a number of stupid emails (people with dumb questions, lowball offers, offering weird trades), and a couple of people made an appointment and then cancelled, but nobody I can recall flaked on their appointment, and nobody showed up and then didn't buy. I also sold some powder and a 80% blank and it was the same.Comment

I've consigned before but it didn't work out in my favor. I was looking to sell a very desirable colt revolver and had a LGS tell me he could get me 40% more than what I expected to get out of it and charge me 20% in fees. I should have known better but I went ahead. 60 days later and it still didn't sell, I went to pick it up and learned I now had to pay $35 in DROS fees and wait 11 days to get it back! FML.
I have bought PLENTY of consignments though. In fact, one store I go to it seems like the majority of items there are consignments. The upside is you don't have to worry about the 1 in 30 since it is treated as a PPT.NRA Life Member - CRPA Life Member - NRA Certified RSO - USN Veteran
