An LGS was having an anniversary sale today (Saturday) so I went to look around. Looked at a compact single-stack Glock .45 but it was a bit large for pocket carry. Plus, it is a .45 so it would cause real problems with my arthritis.

He then brought out the Shield & it was comfortable & small enough to pocket carry. He didn't have any for sale so he took my name & number. Their price is $469.00. Seeing the prices in the above posts makes me think I need to do a bit more shopping (three other stores here in Bakersfield).

The only downside I've had with my 9mm Shield is that is has a lot of muzzle flash, and it's really noticeable when shooting fast in low light indoor ranges or when the sun has gone down.

Every shop I've talked to says the Shield is the best selling pistol the past year or so. I love my 9mm. I added XS Big Dot night sights, Apex sear and Apex striker blocker kit. Shoots like a dream, even in my big hands.

Anyone who owns a shield should look into Talon Grips for it. I was amazed at how good the pistol feels in the hand.

The shield has a strong recoil spring , lock the slide back and release it 10 or 20 times. Mine smoothed right out.

Buy something else. Small , short , thin; not attributes you should be looking for in a first handgun.

Sig 226, Beretta 92F , something full size with a manual safety would be a better choice. If youre Someone who is familiar with shooting but not owning , I would say maybe a G17 or an M&P 9. Something in those ranges.

That's just the ammo you're using. Try it with some defensive ammo with low flash powder like HST's.

Same results with 115gr & 124gr CCI Blazer Brass, 115gr Federal and PMC, and with 124gr & 147gr HST. Big fireball out of the muzzle when I did some testing in low light.

I agree the rubber Talon grips feel good in your hand. But that's about it.

Try carrying the Shield IWB on a warm day where the rubber grip is touching your skin. It will get hot & sweaty in that area pretty quick.

If it's cooler or you have an undershirt or some type of barrier between the rubber grip tape and your skin, then it's great. But for me, I took my rubber grip tape off and will stipple the frame. Any of my stippled guns do not bother my when sitting against my skin when carrying IWB.

YMMV, but that's been my experience with rubber grips, along with a few other people who I've seen and read about with the same experiences.

I'm kicking myself for not waiting. I bought one when they first came out and paid $449 for it!

                    I carry it 10 + hours a day. doesn't bother me?

Maybe it's another factor? Are you still friends with your scale?

JohnBrian I would try Get a Gun in Bakersfield. Been the best prices and selection I've seen in the area.
