Prelock 686 plus value

The S&W catalog puts a value around or lower than what I said for almost new in box condition. In free states, that's probably how much they sell for.

Gotta remember the SCSW 3rd edition is fairly old, pre-o'bama and non Kalifornistan prices.

About 8 months ago, I was in the right place at the right time and picked up a 686 (no dash) 6" in really good shape for $450.

Three days prior to that I was in OC doing a PPT and ALMOST paid $750 for one. I'm glad I didn't

I think I paid $700 or so for my 6" 686 no dash, no "m" model a couple years ago. (The "m" stamp is on no dash and -1 models that were sent back in for a recall, mine is in the original factory configuration pre-recall)

Didn't want to sell it but did. We also had a deal, which was if he ever decides to sell it I would be the buyer at the price he bought it.

Don't worry, people use to pick them every day for $300 to $400. Of course, that was 30 years ago

Just consider the price of a new low quality 686 that smith and wesson is putting out and selling today. They run around 1000 dollars.

Then decide how much you think your good pre lock pre MIM hammer mounted firing pin 686 is worth.

I've seen pre-lock 586's go from $350 to $850 just this year. No boxes. The price range is huge.

I've got a Model 66 no dash, original grips, pinned and recessed. No box. What would be a price range on that? I wanna say it's 90%-95% but I have no idea how to rate stainless revolvers. It hasn't been shot much it just has some minor handling marks.

Great thing about stainless guns: you can restore the finish with fine paper and/or scotch pads.

If your gun has a tight action (needs no work) I would not sell it for less than $900. Actually, if I owned it, I would not sell it at all.

I forgot to mention it's the 4" barrel. Thanks maybe I'll have to try some scotch pads on it. Everything is tight on it and no I don't plan on selling that one. I believe theres no better 357 than the 19/66 or 586/686. They are just the perfect size for 357.

Better off not scotch brighting it. Leave it alone...finish is fine. Most people would rather buy it in its natural state unless you are really competent refinishing it.

I don't know the California market, but a nice 4" P&R 66 is $600-750 in my area. A 2.5" would be a few extra bucks.

I was doing a PPT this afternoon and came across a very nice 686-5 plus and it's a 4" barrel. Consigned and asking for $850. Gun is dirty but it is tight and action is smooth.
Will anyone here pay $850 for it?
