    Prelock 686 plus value

Hi, I was wondering what the value of a clean prelock 4" 686 plus would be. Appreciate any help, thanks.

Buy it .... pre-lock 686 is my second favorite revolver. A close second to my Python.

You're looking for a -4 or -5. The -4 is worth a bit more, the -5 has frame mounted firing pin instead of the hammer, and it also has MIM parts instead of forged

Ah, then it will/should cost more. I bought an early -5 Plus with the MIM parts but no lock for $700.

Value is all relative. I normally place the value of pre-lock L-frames at around $600 - $650, but opinions vary, especially in CA where roster plays a factor.

There was a thread not too long ago about a pre-lock 66 value. Not the same, but similar. I stated my opinion on value, based on what I have seen and what I sold and bought, and some people thought it was too low.

The S&W catalog puts a value around or lower than what I said for almost new in box condition. In free states, that's probably how much they sell for.

Good luck. I hope you get it.

The question isn't what we think the value is, it's what you think the value is...to you. I have an 80's vintage 686. There isn't a smoother shooting 357. Mines 6". 4" would be an amazing gun. Perfect balance and feel. Big enough to tame magnums.

How much are you willing to part with for it. As awesome as it is, it's a 6-shot 357 revolver. It's not plastic, it's not semi auto, it's not black and tacticalish. Honestly I'd pay 750-800 (if I had the funds. And probably more) for it. Right now I've got other priorities otherwise I'd have bought a gp100 match champion. And the 686 is a much nicer gun. You do the math.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

                        That's $800-900, and up to $1,000 if it was a 6". I don't know what the California off-roster mark-up is.

$600-$700 depending on different factors. There were many many made.

These 8-900 suggestions are high. Ive been watching this specific guns proces for a while. Id say $550 to $750 depending on used condition.

You dont need to over pay but you do need to jump quick and will pay very close to top dollar it can grab.

A 686 - 4 if in good shape, is an $800 gun in CA. Anything less, and you have
                              instant equity.

They made a lot of them, but how often do you see them for sale .....

If you have the scratch, buy it, shoot it. I suspect you will keep it for life.

If you pass, let me know. I'll take second in line. I think pre-lock 586/686 's are going to keep increasing in value, especially in CA.

                              Good luck, hope you score.
