    My First .45

Hi guys, I'm in a pretty big dilemma here. I'm finally turning 21 pretty quick here and I am highly interested in buying a 45. I've been interested for quite some time and I am just now starting to seriously look into it because I will finally be coming of age. Let me start out by saying that until recently I was unaware of the California "Safe" Handgun roster bull****. So I was researching a lot of guns that turned out to not be California legal. The requirements that I came up with were that that gun should be hammer-fired(this just makes more sense to me than striker fired), it should have close to max capacity for California, and it should be an overall high quality gun. The guns that ended up on my short list are the SIG 227(awesome weapon), FNX 45(well priced), Beretta PX4, all in .45 because that is the caliber I am set upon, unless i'm convinced otherwise. So, as a lot of you probably know, all 3 of those guns are illegal in the state! As a last resort I am looking into 1911s, and the brand that is sticking out to me as far as my budget(~900) and build quality goes is Springfield. They just came out with some new Operator models that look awesome, but seem to be a little of the pricey side. Anyways, I'm just hoping to get pretty much any kind of input because I'm having a terrible time making a decision, any recommendations, advice or concerns would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

only thing is if you're set on .45 is ammo cost. if you're looking to shoot often, get ready to shell out money for ammo. it's almost twice the cost of 9. I'm not trying to turn this into a caliber war. it's just pointing ammo cost.

      Look at the Sig P220.
You are most likely going to pay out the *** for the off roster ones.
The P220 is only 2 rounds less than the 227, & the slimmer grip feels WAY better (to me anyways), & I wear an XL glove.

Ammo cost does suck but i said exactly the same thing because i had to have a 1911 on my 21st birthday. Op I would check out the 220 if you like sigs, its basically a single stack 227
Selling lots of Pistol brass, lots of 38 and 44 mag!

            OP,
The guns from your list are not illegal in the state. You still can buy it via PPT. However, it may cost a bit more. Since you are leaned to the hammer-fired models, consider H&K USP .45, compact or full-size, depends on what fits your hand better.

There ain't nothing wrong with a Springfield 1911. But keep your eyes peeled in the "for sale" section you might find something you want and be careful...it can be addicting, checking multiple times a day for guns guns guns!!

hey, I have looked at 9mm and I don't have anything against the round but the major limiting factor preventing me from buying one in the stupid 10 round magazine law. I'm following the standard logic that if I can only have 10 rounds, they should be as powerful as I can handle. The cost does hurt but at this time .45 is what i'm strongly leaning towards.

I have looked at the sig 220, and it's an awesome gun and I am considering it, the only thing really holding me back from buying it is that I feel like buying it sort of like compromising with the state(when in any other state I could pay almost the same price for the 227) Also I was so into the 227 when I was first checking it out that buying essentially the outdated model of the gun just seems wrong. Not crossing it off my list but those are some of the things that I'm thinking about.

The 1911R looks like a good gun, I'll be looking into it.

Springfield Loaded, you will not be disappointed and is a great gun for the price. It was my first 1911 also.

On another note, if any of you know any great places to buy guns in the Sacramento area, that info would really help. Thanks in advance.

HK USP45 compact. I am assuming thT if you can grip an FNX 45, you can easily grip the USP45. This one is on CA roster.

He wants 10rd mag. 1911 with 10rder looks weird.

It's a tad immature. You should pick the gun that fits your hand the best.
