S&W Shield.

So I picked up my shield 2 weeks ago. I have to say it is a great gun! First thing I did was remove the mag disconnect. I've taken it to the range twice and it shoots dead on. I will still buy the apex trigger probably as the stock one isn't bad, but seems a little heavy to me. Anyone considering one should defiantly bite the bullet.

Whats the size comparison to a Glock 26? Seems alot of people prefer shield over glock 26. Besides hatred for Glock is any other reason? They have been really popular. Nice guns!

I held both when I bought it. Love my glock 19. Though the 26 felt almost twice as big.

I'm amazed every time I shoot my Shield. Even though it's a smaller gun, I find the recoil is the same as my G19. But S&W really needs to do something about that trigger. My trigger pull was over 8 lbs. out of the box. What was even worse was the amount of over travel, which caused me to pull shots slightly to the left. My M&P 9, M&P 9C, and Shield all have Apex sears now.

The Shield is much thinner than a G26, although the G26 has a slightly shorter grip.

The Shield conceals much much better due to the slimness.

Shield triggers are hit or miss. Both of mine were great, but definitely there are some heavier ones out there too.

Congrats OP! I have one and love it as well. I did not do an Apex trigger, but after a few thousand rounds mine is great.

Quite simple. Much easier if I had a buddy or a vise to help though.

I really like mine, i bought it via SSE so no magazine disconnect. It's my primary carry. It's got a good trigger, smooth and crisp, the only complaint I have with it is the over travel.

It's very slim, light and easy to carry while being accurate and easy to shoot.

I picked the Glock over the Shield. The shield is thinner and slightly shorter at the slide. But SW still has not fixed the guide rod alignment problem. For me that killed the Shield as a viable carry gun. Reliability > Slightly smaller print

Never had any issues with my Shield in the 300-400 rounds I've shot since January.

I'm not as accurate with it though, I still need to get used to that trigger. Its my first S&W gun and the trigger is alot stiffer compared to my Glocks and Sigs.

What spring did you use to do the disconnect mod?
Seems 1911 mag release springs are popular to cut down for this.


Also, any real issues with the grip for you?
I see so many putting talon grips on.
