Nice, unusual pistol Kappy. This state is now boring as hell as far "normal" pistols we can acquire so nice to see some of you guys out there, still pushing the envelope. FWIW, I think it is a very cool looking, modern gun.

The first real update to revolver technology in at least 100 years. Good buy!

I agree that the Rhino represents an update to revolver technology, but it's not the first to use key features such as firing from the lower chamber or using a squared off cylinder design.

In fact the man who designed the Rhino, Emilio Ghisoni actually designed a revolver prior to the Rhino with these features. In fact you could probably say it was the father to the Rhino.

That revolver is the Mateba Unica (top gun)


Here you can see it fires from the bottom chamber


Besides the key feature of firing from the bottom chamber and squared off cylinder, the Mateba was also a semi-auto design! When the gun fires the entire top end of the revolver cycles back, revolves the cylinder, and cocks the hammer for semi-auto operation.

In Ghisoni's later years he met with another Italian gun designer, Cudazzo. After ghisoni's death Cudazzo took the design to Chiappa and the result is the Rhino.

Congratulations on your Rhino, I've shot one before it is indeed a sweet shooting gun. One day I'd like to add one to my collection to go with the Mateba.

I'm not sure that the Mateba would be the first one. There was another one made by Braverman in the early 90s, vs. the Mateba which was designed in '97. I wouldn't buy one... and they're uglier than the Rhino, but credit where credit is due.
