I'd suggest a pocket gun- lcp 380. The Glock isn't really a pocket gun IMHO

The reloads will be only for practice since in the case I had to defend myself I want to make sure I am using a manufactured round, and not what may be considered a hot load.

I started with a G26(small), G19(med) and Sig P226(large). I realized that I'd never carry my Sig so I replaced it with a Shield 9. After that, the G26 didn't get any carry rotation so I sold it and replaced it with an XDs 3.3" 45acp. Now I'm going to replace my G19 with a VP9 and use the G19 in IDPA CCP.

I'd actually recommend a nice J-Frame. Built well, solid .38sp rounds, great concealability, easier than just about anything else to squeeze till you're empty. They feel bigger than the 42, yet they are still a nice pocket gun that you could put in your pocket and shoot without ever having to draw. Something like a shrouded hammer 642 or 638 would be a good pocket gun because you can shoot right through your jacket and into someone's center mass without ever having them see a gun.

Kind of sounds far fetched when you see it written down, but it is an upside to a revolver that a semi auto doesn't offer (at least very well)

Since you already have an XD40 4", get an XD45 in 4".

I chose a .45 Commander since I wanted a "briefcase" gun for the car and office. I had a snubby .38 and a XD-9 subcompact as my other two. I practice with them all regularly.

I'd add an airweight j-frame, 340 preferably and it's probably something you'd carry the most.

Something like a 340pd would be light enough, strong enough, shoot full-house .357mag loads and be potent enough for most 2 legged game including black bear around the northern 48 states. 5 rounds of .357mag to the chest or face ought to be a bad day for anyone involved. This is the route I'd take by all means. Don't worry about all the body armor garbage, and just look at what 99.9% of bad guys will be wearing.

ditch the 40 cal and get a G26 and G30S, I have those and a G42 on my permit and enjoy them all.

I carry the Kimber UCII at least once a week, sometimes more. It requires a little more frequent cleaning and lubing than my other more modern carry guns, but reliability? As long as its clean, well lubed and loaded up with its favorite Wilson Combat mags, it will match my Glocks and HK's, round-for-round. I feel very well protected when I have it on me.

I would only recommend it to you, however, if you are accustomed to engaging and disengaging a safety - both Safety directions are very crucial for any 1911 intended for Carry.

Ideally, all your carry weapons should all have the same (1) Manual of Arms and (2) Trigger Design/Mechanism. But I suppose if one has enough training, muscle memory, practice and awareness, capably protecting oneself is very possible with a variety of CCW's.

FWIW - I've had my ccw for about a year now, carrying everyday.

My original 3 on my ccw were:
Walther PPQ M2 9mm
Sig P226 40s&w
Sig P220 Carry Elite 45acp
I carried the PPQ 90% of the time, the P220 10% of the time, never carried the P226.

I updated my 3 on my ccw after about 6 months to the following
Walther PPQ M2 9mm (kept it on as my edc)
Walther PPS 9mm
Sphinx SDP Compact 9mm
I still carry the PPQ edc, however I've been carrying the PPS more on the weekends when I'm in shorts/tshirt. I carry the Sphinx on occasion when I need a little variety.

Also YMMV - After taking TJ's CCW class at AllSafe - I'm more of a believer of having more rounds of 9mm, then lower rounds making bigger holes like the 45acp. In a high stress occassion of CCW, if God forbid I ever have to draw to protect myself or my loved ones, I tend to think I'd rather have more rounds in case of misses then lower rounds making bigger holes...but that's just me & why I chose 9mm to replace the 45acp & 40s&w on my ccw.
