Gen3 vs Gen4

I prefer the Gen 3 over the 4 for the 9mm. The dual recoil spring system would be really nice for a hot round. The 9mm doesn't have enough power to make a difference. I also like how the Gen 1-3 have interchangeable parts as opposed to the Gen 4. A minor detail but if SHTF then parts will be easier to come by. I happen to like the finger grooves on the Gen 3, however I haven't messed with too many Gen 2s.

Is interchangeable back straps and a larger mag release worth it to you?

Personally, I prefer the gen 3. I like the grip texture and smaller mag release and the flatter slide finish better.

It's a Honda, you can fix it up on any generations.

But Gen 4s are strictly for the totally tacticool shooters and the seal team 6 who get their hands bloodied in battle and need a different texture.

I wonder if people go buy a different car because it has a specially textured steering wheel?

I have a bunch of Gen 3's and Gen 4's in 9mm.

Shooting them slow fire at the range - my hands don't have a preference for grip size. Mag release doesn't matter.

Shooting IDPA and USPSA, I find that I much prefer my Gen 4's with the LARGE backstrap because my largish hands do less funky things with the trigger when my trigger finger is closer to parallel to the frame when pulling the trigger.

I do find the OEM extended Gen3 mag release easier to work then the OEM extended Gen4 mag release though but I pull the trigger way more than I change mags so the choice is easier.. (The divisions I shoot require OEM mag releases). The Gen4s are about 1/2lb heavier in trigger pull over the Gen3 when using the same parts but I only notice this on slow fire.

Every Gen 4 I own is more accurate than my equivalent Gen 3 guns - without fail. The difference vary's and it isn't huge but I can notice it.

Or just people who actually shoot their guns in conditions other than an air conditioned range at rates of fire greater than 1 round every 5 seconds and while moving and on a clock.

But yeah, your average range warrior isn't going to notice the difference- short of a sweaty palm disorder. Besides, when your 7y pistol target looks like you were aiming for his kidneys with a shotgun; the texture of the grip is the least of your problems anyway.

Handling the Gen3 and Gen4 side by side, the Gen4 with the large backstrap felt a little better. Total cost difference was $50 so I bought the Gen4, cause I could. If the cost difference was more than that I wouldn't have bothered.

I have a Glock 22 in both gen 3 & 4. A side by side comparison does not yield a significant difference. Speaking for myself, I would not mind paying maybe $50-$75 more for the gen 4, but for $100.00 more I would prefer to get a gen 3 instead.

Like stated above, in my experience the gen 4 is a bit more accurate.

For those who like the dual spring on the Gen 4, there's an adapter for the Gen 3 to use the dual springs.

I have a Gen 2 G17 and a Gen 4 G17. The Gen 4 slightly feels better and has the additional features mentioned by others. Really not much difference in shooting. Worth $200 more, depends on how much $200 extra is to you. On a budget, no. Got a massive bonus and really like glocks, yes. I would wait and shop around if interested in in a Gen 4. Most want to flip their SSE purchases for max profit right now. A G30s, that's a different story. Really like mine and won't sell.

If you don't like the finger grooves, take them off. It's only plastic.
