    Shooting Pigeons

Does anybody know if it is legal to shoot pigeons with a bb gun in la county? Our shop here is getting really bad. We've tried to bring in cats, those fake owls, sensor alarms and nothing has worked. They're crapping all over the floor. Want to bring in my bb gun to take some out

A BB gun is a little underpowered for Pigeons.

Maybe you should look at a decent Pellet Gun?

I don't know if it is illegal to shoot them in LA, but If you are indoors then who is going to find out? Just don't broadcast it !!!

Check you city ordinances and Los Angeles County Ordinances.

      Under Los Angeles County Ordinances...

It is illegal to discharge a firearm or bow/crossbow or airgun/bb device within County limits, unless its for self defense or in an exempt area (licensed target range, approved hunting areas). [LACO 13.66.010]
^If caught it is a $500 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail.

Don't know what kind of "shop" you work in but if it has compressed air, rig up an air nozzle with a piece of 3/8" tubing, get some ball bearings. Works as good as a pellet gun

Without a hunting license and following the F&G code (including seasons and "method of take") it is illegal even if you can legally discharge an air gun or firearm at that location.

Fun fact. That shooting area map while the text has been updated over the years, the map itself has never been updated since it was created back in the 1800's. Many of the streets and landmarks they used for geographic references do not exist anymore... I'm not even sure if they could enforce it if someone actually pushed back and did their homework.

Another option maybe to hire a Falconer. I'm guessing an hour with a trained Aplomado Falcon indoors would give you a lot of dead pigeons. Odds are good the Falconer will even take the Pigeon bodies as bird food.

Air gunners have a saying regarding caliber choices, ".177 for feathers, .22 for fur."

HOWEVER... shooting anything (meaning both the tool used and the target) where not legal could bring huge legal and financial consequences to the business, business owner and the shooter.

I read somewhere if the birds see 1 of them getting killed, then they'll get scared and go away. Maybe poison them. However, you got to find out if killing pigeons and the methods of killing them are legal in your area.

Sort of joking and certainly not suggesting it but fans without a front grill work great, kind of messy though.

                          Works for eagles too.

(I had a water leak, removed carpet to dry with a couple of 20 in fans on the front porch, one didn't have front grill. Two mourning doves over a course of two days decided to get a close look. Mourning doves are not very intelligent).

There are companies that will trap the pigeons for you.

Pigeons are not a protected bird so you can kill them. When I do bird dog training I call these companies for birds $3 per bird.

                              Pigeons eat real good!
