Some pigeons are protected to the point that there's a 2 bird a day limit and the season is only 9 days long in CA.

Open your doors to a handful of homeless folk. They will sort this problem out (but you may end up with another set of issues)

Don't waste them. Take um home. They make a good meal, in rice dishes.

Those Bandtails live in the mountains no where near any city. Pretty easy to see the difference and they taste even better feeding on acorns!

We get bandtails in San Jose. But it is easy to tell the difference.

I'm just 3 miles outside the city limits and have them here for about 6 months a year at about 1100 ft in elevation.

What's the old saying? Shoot, shovel, and STFU!
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

I didn't eat pigeons, but I'm positive that they make nice bbq meals with beers.

Btw, those questioning the legality... If a registered raptor takes a bird, that bird is legal food of the raptor regardless of what it is. In the wild they will eat anything they can catch. You as the hunter are not allowed to benefit from the kill if it is off-season for example. However, the raptor is a different story. In some cases it is still technically still owned by the State (if wild caught).

Which is why Falconers (with the right other permits) can do a lot of odd things like bird abatement at airports or in warehouses.

I don't think this guy is talking about "Band Tailed Pigeons. I think he's talking about common "Flying Rat" type Pigeons.

Probably wouldn't eat one of those.

There is a huge difference between farm raised pigeons, and the city dweller pigeons. If you're foolish enough to eat a pigeon in LA, you may not enjoy the experience.

I think a paint ball gun would be pretty effective on a pigeon.
