If a firearm is nowhere on or near me, the permit is a moot point and irrelevant.

The IA that issued my CCW informed me that I had to notify a LEO that I am a CCW permit holder regardless of whether or not I am carrying my firearm. Unless the Officer issuing my CCW was lying, she said that if a LEO runs my DL, it will show that I am a CCW permit holder and will not look good if I omit that information. I honestly have not had any interactions with a LEO since I've had my CCW permit so I have not had to inform or not inform them about my CCW as of yet.

When I was taking my required CCW training class, we discussed the issue of presenting your license to an officer if you were pulled over.

I asked the instructor if the fact that a person had a concealed weapon permit wouldn't come up automatically when the officer ran your drivers license number. He stated no. And that surprised me.

Are there any LEO's here that can confirm that information ?
And does anyone have written confirmation from any IA that one must always present their license to carry even if they have no firearms on their person or in their vehicle at that time ?

15 years ago (when I last sat at a dispatch station), CCW status was available, but it did not come up on a 28/29 request (10-28 check vehicle registration, 10-29 check for local wants/warrants); We had to look at another screen.

With the MDTs in the cars and updated dispatch consoles ... that may have been updated, I know they were planning on adding something that would banner if the name run was a subject of a Restraining Order or if previous interactions the subject was violent.

Sure, make jokes, but that guy who pretends he’s a pimp said he wears his CCW permit on an ID card lanyard around his neck. And I think he was serious.

Both times the Officer runs wants and warrants, then hands them both back and tells me to slow down. No tickets.

Most LEO are familiar with the vetting process and immediately treated me more as a peer than a perp.

In my experience it?s always an advantage.

I agree with the exception of very liberal places like LA however, I have handed my driver's license, CCW and ordained minister card to cops, kept my hands on the wheel and ask em, "How do you do it? You gotta be counselor, gunfighter, peacekeeper, medic, and several other things all while being digitally recorded and held to a higher standard? Seems like an impossible job...I mean calling."

I have never had a LEO treat me with anything but respect & appreciation and have never been cited in the years I carry. They do seem to treat CCW citizens more as peers. But I would hesitate to produce my CCW card if I were unarmed because you are basically saying, "Yeah...I'm a toothless sheepdawg." Always carry. ALWAYS!
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

Interesting. Who is your IA? And is there any statement about this on your actual permit? Or somewhere on their website or their list of relevant information?

I don't understand the reasoning behind telling an officer you're a permit holder when you are NOT carrying. But not everything IA's want you to do always make sense.

In SMC when you DL is ran it will show if you're a firearms owner, but it does not show if you have a CCW permit.

CA doesn't have a law requiring showing a CCW on a traffic stop. But as stated by "Brother Hezekiel", it may be a requirement of the issuing agency. I am leery of it, since there was an incident here by the local PD where a CCW holder showed his permit, and ended up handcuffed in the back seat of a patrol while the female officer "checked" him out. But then, she was known for stuff like that.
I'm a retired LEO, and my retired LEO ID card doubles as a CCW, but does not state what weapons are authorized. I got stopped for a traffic violation, and the officer saw my retired ID, and asked to see it. He just stared at it and acted like he didn't know what to do with it.
What they don't know won't hurt me.

You guys seem to get pulled over a lot. I can't remember the last time I was pulled over by any LEO. Maybe late 80's or early 90's?

My O.C. permit states I am to disclose if carrying and I would do so. If not carrying then no need to disclose.
