Where to apply in LA County

    Howdy,

So I live in the City of Hacienda Heights which is an unincorporated city in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department serves Hacienda Heights, so would I apply at the local Los Angeles Sheriff's Station for a CCW permit?

    Thanks,
    Derrick

    Fellow members, be gentle.

    LA County is effectively no-issue.

What Librarian said. You have virtually no chance of getting a CCW in L.A. County. Your best bet is to move South about twenty miles or so just over the Orange County line. As long as you have a clean record there is a very good chance you'll be granted a CCW by OCSD. Other than that no chance!

As previous posters have pointed out, the LASD is effectively "No Issue".

The last listing of CCW permits (during the Lee Baca years) that I saw had about 240 names on it, excluding PC 830.6 reserve deputies. Nearly all of those were judges and employees of the judicial system. I never heard of a sitting judge being denied a permit. One was even approved after submitting a blank statement of good cause. There were a small number of civilian employees of the department and a small number of "Friends of the Sheriff." I understand that Lee Baca's friends were not necessarily John Scott's friends and I've been told those are no longer in issue. The current Sheriff's practices appear to be the same.

The very few, probably less than 20 permits that were issued to ordinary folks seemed to have the following in common: 1) The recipient was of very established good character, 2) There was a very specific and identifiable threat against the recipient (to the point of including the threat's name, address and DOB), 3) Law enforcement was not adequately able to protect against the threat.

It's easy, just take Hacienda Rd. 5 miles over the hill and buy a house in La Habra. You sir, have been deemed unworthy solely based on your geographic location.

Or take SR-60 14 miles to Chino Hills to a shall-issue county.

Orange County is pretty much a slam dunk isn't it? But yeah given the choice I'd probably rather live in Chino Hills than La Habra.

I wouldn't say OC is a slam dunk but a better chance than shaqs free throws.

As long as you have no criminal record and can verify that you live in OC or SB you will have no problem getting a CCW. Nobody is denied for lack of good cause. SB County is the same. Either way you will get your permit!

Oh ya... For some reason I was thinking LaHabra was LACO but thought maybe you were aware that the PD was issuing. I grew up in South Whittier and hung out in Whittier, LaMirada, and LaHabra for the most part, until I started driving and spent more time in OC.

OC isn't exactly a slam-dunk like SB, but it's not hard to put together a workable GC statement.

I wouldn't consider either OC or SD a "slam dunk", but of the 2 so far we have far more evidence that OC is the easier of the 2 counties to get issued in. If SD is truly on par with OC where GC is concerned, we'll know in the next 6 months or so....
